Kenshi is like the only game where it feels like a honest to god real desert, where you can truly be surrounded by nothing but endless dunes.

Uncharted 3's sand physics, sound design and character movements and reactions to the sun and the sand blew me away back in the day, however Gobi's valley is by far the best desert stage, back when I was a kid I spent hours trying to get into the secret tomb with the question mark egg Mumbu shows you in the ending

But most of all, Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy.

I completed the main game and was satisfied. I generally don't like open world games, so I surprised myself when I finished it. I think the japanese humor and especially the small talk between the party that happens during travel carried the open world part, and the mecha combat was just fun overall.

Kek

You get to the desert at roughly the Level 54 mark. Its cool because the minimap stops working there and you can get lost quite easily if you are a first timer. Getting list without water/tea is a death sentence there especially since you lose shit ton of exp.

Kharak home

It's a shame that Homeworld was never a AAA franchise with money to spare.
The only reason we got Desert of Kharak was because they were planning a spiritual prequel, before getting the actual licence for the game.

The system of clanic Kiith of the Kharakian is very interesting on paper. It even reflect how their entire civilization are basically the remnant of an exiled spaceship that crashed there.

Though I like Nier's OST more in general, Automata still had some neat pieces like the one that plays in the desert pictured:

I prefer Replicant's version of Temple of Drifting Sands over the original's, despite mostly preferring the originals over the Replicant versions of songs.

The time limit isn't too bad once you get used to playing the game with scheduling in mind, similar to Majora's Mask
Worth going through the adjustment to enjoy the combat, environments, music, etc.
