rdr2 made it so that classic boring cowboy settings are more interesting now. they just made the "wild west" feel so mundane. obviously rdr2 is more of a "southern" anyway. i binged on some spaghetti western classics after i finished rdr2 and it just made me mad that they went east in the game, because the southwestern setting will always be the real cowboy setting we know and love.

I wanted to do my own thing, radiant bounty missions live like an outlaw buy property maybe make a homestead do some hunting etc. instead of got a forced story game with no freedom at all. They were never really boring, there was just an issue with over saturation of the genre. Everyone and their mom were making westerns back in the day Spaghetti Westerns were an innovation from your usual western as they were much more gritty and morally grey. But then they managed to be over saturated. RDR1 followed the spaghetti western model very well. 2 however takes the modern deconstructed route of it where it has the violence and other shit but makes it utterly dry and boring because it needs to say “oh hey guys did you know that it wasn’t rootin tootin shootin and all these poor minorities were suffering.” So now everything has to be depressing and sterilized due to both a need to portray “realism” and show “respect”.

presentation in this game is 10/10, but a lot suffers for it, especially quality of life.
the thing that pissed me off the most was the horse weapon stowing mechanics.
if you ride your own horse with your weapons holstered, Arthur will stow all his long guns on it automatically. and the story has a nasty habit of dismounting you mid-cutscene and moving you away from your horse, so plenty of combat missions start with you running back to your horse to equip yourself properly.
I get they marketed the game with this feature but dear god, why did it have to be automatic?
if you're not modding it out, I recommend stealing or taming but not saddling horses to bypass the mechanic

Not really, why is that I said even heavily modded the movement still sucks ass. It is molasses mental palsy 3 seconds lag every time no matter what.
What you can do is can speed up looting animations with the mod Speed Up Game, but be sure to sed speed at x4 in the config files instead of x1000, since it maxes out at x4 and at x1000 will crash your game after a hundred loots or so.
Also there is some auto loot mod I couldn't get to work that skips the looting part entirely, if it works for you.

I have a theory that Rockstar was stupid enough to assign char actions to async CPU threads instead of running it on the main thread, and that is why it feels some unresponsive. Using threads to put random NPC fluff and shrinking horse balls?
