I remember the game more for oil traps/hit and run maneuvers. The ice spell was way funnier than kicking every could be: watching them slide was hilarious.
As for your question, probably cause it didn't sold well. It's a cult classic.

Copy this into the launch options if you have the game on Steam:

Adjust so it fits your screen's resolution. It makes the game more stable. It still crashes occasionally but at least you'll be able to complete it.

It really is quite hard to make a combat system like Dark Messiah's. It's complicated, but feels simple and intuitive. You can attack in various ways, kick, and cast spells, all with realistic/intuitive/feelsgood physics. Making good 3D body physics that works well in many combat situations is not easy. It has lots of extra shit like decapitation, body damage, whatever. It's extremely difficult to make a system like that. You need at least one very smart guy who has the passion and ability to implement it, perhaps with help from underlings. Ideally you need a few smart guys to help and provide feedback. These guys typically will cost a lot of money. If instead you have 300 cheap and/or diversity hired goons, you are simply not going to make that kind of combat system, even through imitation.
