>grimdark spinoff is better than the actual game

Why would Ninty be so dumb as not to write a sequel?

They should have kept AW going as an anthology series, writing a different setting for each game. Would have been neat.
They could do full space opera with mechs and shit.

because AW is a cursed series that is destined to fail regardless of how good they make the games, sadly. They even tried having another dev make a game and they failed spectacularly

Slow, turn-based, tactical games are doomed to fail in a market filled with ADHD, brainrotted zoomers. They don't have the attention span to sit through anything longer than a 5 second TikTok - how do you expect them to sit through a match of AW?

It just didn't sell as well.
They took a risk and it didn't pay off.
The more realistic and dark setting was appreciated by many but pushed away more.

A sequel to Days of Ruin / Dark Conflict was not just going to happen some ten years later. It would have either happened a couple years down the line at latest or not at all.
Unless you are specifically talking about Re-Boot camp, which had its own problems none of which to do with a demographic that AW was never intending to target
Or you could just pull your face and say zoomer again, I don't really care

The whole fucking series is dead, anon, and there's a reason for that. ADHD zoomers simply aren't going to play slow, turn-based, tactical games. Even when they tried to reboot the series with Boot Camp it was a total flop (and yes, I admit that it had problems of its own). There's simply no market for these games anymore, no matter how good they may be.

AW does fill a very awkward niche, which is basically people who want to play a turn based tactics game, but not something that's as in depth and demanding as X-Com or Jagged Alliance.
There might just not be that much of a place for it these days. It was one thing where if you wanted to play a game like that on a portable, you basically had AW or Fire Emblem to choose from. I'm sure these days a lot of what would have been the AW audience is playing some free to play mobile game or another, and other people are playing grown up strategy games either on Switch or Deck, or they're playing FE which has now captured the waifu market and is a considerably bigger brand.

Would be retarded but it would be cool as fuck if fire emblem had a spinoff series that shifted forward in time and began to incorporate warped mechanised tech, kind of like valkyria chronicles that fuses knights with WW2 era soldiers

In an ideal world we could have got metal slug X Advance wars but both are dead.

I played a little but of the Advance Wars "remake" and it's clear that if the series doesn't evolve, it's all but dead. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe there's an Advance Wars that plays like a 3rd Person Shooter with RTS design. That's what the series should become.

Reboot Camp being outsourced and not even released in Japan pretty much showed the series was dead forever, Nintendo see it as some low-priority side thing exclusively for the gaijins and not a franchise worthy of any serious further development or investment from the actual team at IS.

Well its like you said, advanced wars probably needed to change. But I still like pixel art a lot since I am a pixel artist. So it was just gonna be a top down RTS. So I think it would be better to describe it as a top down Battalion Wars I guess? Though the weapons will have a lot more range. I been making it in C but I dont know if I should continue making it in C or in Gamemaker, I feel like it would probably run better if I made it in C? I dont know. I should probably get back to it and make gamejam style demo where I can show off one unit moving around and shooting and picking targets, and build off of that and add features on top of it. But I do intend to have a full story, different nations though it'll be like advance wars, where you can just tell who is who by the CO's and unit looks. (Russia, China, Japan, USA, and Europe). I thought about adding aliens too. Since I always wanted a story with aliens invading. But I think this is more grounded as a story of "war games", that leads to war games gone "hot". Still unsure about the terrain if it should be pixels but I do like this map I found thats has elevations and had a 3d feel to it with the shadows.
Anonymous No.719219359 >>719220487
>>719218184
Sounds great! I would suggest continuing coding in C as it will give you more room to adjust how you want the game to play. Not to say Gamemaker isn't flexible, but having a game engine of your own is more freeing.
>I've thought of adding aliens
>but I want a more grounded story
Seeing countries slowly form alliances and cold wars around defeating the aliens would be an interesting turn on the alien invasion trope. Just because a greater evil arrives doesn't mean tensions fade away. The enemy of my enemy is my friend can only go so far. Course, this, I assume, is your first BIG project so scaling into your level is highly recommended. You have plenty of time to create your magnum opus.

I think I had this idea but I never thought of it like that. The reoccurring idea/plot/premise starting out it would be sometime past the 2030's, there is heightened tension between East and West. Russia and China abruptly leave (in a panic) during a very high profile talks (about the tension) at the UN. They suddenly cut off their countries or at least cut off contact with the West because they spotted a Alien spacecraft which the West finds out a few days later and also panics, and thus starting the Wargames...
I kinda had like mini campaigns planned out for each country, in their own respective regions.
>Russia mainly focused on protecting their Artic Route
>China defending SEA trade route in the 2IC and parts of the Pacific (where Russia is mainly)
>Europe + USA in the Atlantic
>Japan well Japan
>USA defending North America.
