By 2027, going into 2028 I think we'll see if the Switch 2 is a success or if they're going to cut their losses and jump right into the next console.

Video games have generated more money and engamenent than movies for years, but movies still reach a larger raw amount of people as a way to bring awareness to your brand. Movies are more accessible in terms of effort required in money or interest.
See Resident Evil. It's a legit video game series, but a very large part of its weight in normie culture comes from the movies. Or Tomb Raider, which has a chance of being side mentioned every time Angelina Jolie is news. Thus a journalist is more likely to choose to highlight newer entries of these game whenever they are made over franchises that only gamers know about.

The reason Nintendo is investing so much in movies and theme parks is because if the Switch fails they're essentially fucked. Nintendo is the last console maker still clinging to exclusivity which puts them in a vulnerable position. Honestly I wouldn't be surprised if they created a sub-brand seperate from Nintendo for publishing multiplatform games some time in the future.
