No they didn't. They just added more filler bullshit. They've done nothing to make planets actually interesting explore. They've done nothing to make combat fun. They've done nothing to balance exocraft so that there's a reason to use them to get them around. They've done nothing to give you any reason to build a planetside base instead of just using your freighter which serves every purpose a planetside base does except mobile. They've added nothing meaningful as far as points of interests go. They've done nothing to make derelict freighters actually challenging and fun to explore. Combat still sucks cock despite their attempts to "fix" it.
This happens every time the devs throw out some half assed update. They just add meaningless fluff without doing anything to address the actual issues with the game and then retards like you eat it up while covering your ears and screaming "I CAN'T HEAR YOU" when anyone points it out.
Now's the part where you ditch this thread to make a new one, try to samefag and scream about how awesome the update is in order to bury my post, or just reply with "tl;dr" because you can't come up with any justifications for them ignoring the numerous issues with the core gameplay. Take your pick, it happens every time they release an update and it's always plays out the same.

Every point you listed as things you can RP as in Saarfield you can also do in NMS. The only thing NMS is missing is combat encounters with humanoid NPCs on foot, and maybe RPG leveling if that's something you even really care about (you shouldn't, because Bethesda doesn't and makes it suck in their new games. Sentinels exist for ground-based combat, but they don't scratch the same itch as NPCs in outposts with loot to find.

There's no real reason to ever play Shartfield, because everything else in NMS is an objective improvement.

Except fighting sentinels is just really tedious, primarily due to a combination of the drones constantly healing other sentinels and the fact that the game uses a wanted system that causes them to basically spawn endlessly until you either max out the wanted level and kill the final wave or hide in a hole until they just fuck off.

you're out here fuming over any form of criticism. the harsh reality is that it is tedious to play because it puts up unfun barriers to do any kind of exploration or travel, which is already boring as is. of all the criticism starfield got it was smart enough to not make it a full on chore to warp to places, even if those places were desolate at times.

Default progression is slow, that is true. But then, tinkering with the difficulty sliders means that I still get the need to explore and gather, but instead of something taking 15 minutes, now it's only 5 minutes so progression is much smoother, especially considering the amount of content they've been adding throughout the years (though I'd argue that quite a few of them are not worth experiencing, like the last Beacon update).

Amusingly there was news, they tucked it in the end of the NMS update video. Boats are confirmed in light no fires and they use the same building mechanics as NMS, which means you can build any ship you want and use it as a base/fill it with your friends (if you have any lol)

The core gameplay consists of going to planets to dig rocks to go to planets to dig more rocks to go to planets to dig more rocks. You're telling him to remove the core aspect of the game. What meaningful gameplay do you have left once you remove that? It sure as shit isn't exploring planets because there's absolutely nothing interesting to explore. Points of interests on planets generally just consist of nothing but 1-3 room structures with nothing of real interest inside, just junk, a handful of nanites, and maybe a mediocre upgrade module. The only exceptions being crashed freighters which use the same exact design so once you've seen one you've seen them all as well as crashed ships since they present an opportunity to get a new ship as long as you don't mind fetching a bunch of shit to repair them. It sure as shit isn't exploring derelicts because they just consist of linear corridors with sleep inducing threats, plus you can only do them once a day unless you want to shell out a shit ton of credits for an additional nav coordinate. It sure as shit isn't space combat because that shit's a joke with how simplistic it is and is even a bigger joke by the fact that you can just repair your shields at any time by just popping some of the hundreds if not thousands of sodium you're constantly swimming in.

So not only did you not buy it, you never even played it. Flying between planets literally just consists angling your ship towards the planet and then holding down space to go FTL until you get there. You never actually fly between planet because it'd take ages to actually do so normally and almost every square foot of space is littered with asteroids you would either need to shoot or fly around.
In other words you haven't played the game, you don't know anything about the game, hell you've probably never seen gameplay footage of the game but you're insisting it's awesome because of some mental image you've built up in your head. Either that or you're just getting paid to say it's an awesome game even though you don't play it. I really hope it's the latter since that'd at least be somewhat understandable since a man's gotta eat after all.

The problem is they're just so creatively bankrupt and lazy that they do almost nothing with them. What should be awe inspiring phenomena and creatures that either make you want to shit your pants or investigate further are reduced to mundane random encounters barely worth a glance that you quickly forget about

Anonymous No.719231271
>Why is every mechanic a tacked gimmick
Maybe because it's easier to update the game that way?
Look at Elite or Star Citizen, tons of really complex systems, and the games get updated at such a slow pace, because everytime you want to add something or overhaul something, that means reworking everything else, including all of the really complex stuff, and that takes too much time and money clearly
Meanwhile NMS goes for a simpler/casual approach to space games, and this is why they can infinitely keep on updating the game at a really fast pace and churn out game/engine changing updates without it breaking the fucking game apart

this

nms is the most disappointing game i have ever played and it's irritating to see them add all this crap to it without fixing the underlying issue that the game is genuinely soulless and boring.
nothing you do matters. everything is already named, already discovered, same copy pasted assets in every planet, same world and creaturegens over and over, like even though they added more animals and animal parts every world spawns the same handful of critter types that all do the same thing. it's not like you can land on a fucked up evil looking planet and encounter like a burer from stalker that attacks you psychically or some shit, it's literally just rick and morty tier spacecows and spacebugs a thousand different ways.

That's just space games. People need to figure out that what they REALLY want is GTA based in a Star Wars like setting. Hit up Coruscant to buy/sell contraband, buy a shitty motel or if you're wealthy buy a highrise luxury apartment. Get in a gunfight with the police running/driving through the scifi streets killing pedestrians and droid cops as your wanted level increases to where clones (or Old Republic equivalent) start chasing you, get in your spaceship and get in a dogfight in the sky/planet's atmosphere before jumping into hyperspace to go have adventures on another planet. Coruscant command will now shoot you down on site so you can't enter the planet unless you have connections or know of backdoors to get in. The point of the game isn't "accept job to kill 2 random fighters in space", it's "man I wanna kidnap wookies on Kashyyyk and sell them into slavery on Tatooine"

elite dangerous has actual exploration of worlds that are actually unique, i can land on a billion of the same-looking rock in E:D and still never actually see the same surface twice. there's weird shit to discover like black holes and neutron stars, actual alien threats, pvp if you want, etc. on the other hand NMS always feels like the same planet with a different skin every time, and despite having a bunch of npcs and bright colors everywhere feels so lonely and cold because it's all this saccharine fakeness that doesn't really work in a space game imo. it's TOO sci-fi and that means nothing is actually new or interesting.

you can also get a freight/capital ship which is basically a floating base on which you can also place teleporter and they are actually better for jumping from galaxy to galaxy as they have longer range and planetary scanners that scan the entire system with a single button
but in general no, you dont have to craft bases everywhere, i have one main base which i put on a comfy green planet and a capital ship i use for traversing the galaxy and i teleport between the two, you can also teleport to every space station you visited

Not entirely related but I want Helldivers 2 but with space ships. Let me pick a ship, load it out, and run quick 30 minute missions with people. Different mission types but I would imagine the most obvious type would be a transport mission where you have:
1. One guy is the hauler, who has to avoid enemies and fly around hazards
2. Recon/Support role
3. A couple of combat pilots

Then after 30m, mission over, get xp/credits, upgrade/buy parts, design your ship/ect and go again.

Space is boring. Its why NMS/Elite/Star Citizen don't work. The boring traveling between places sucks, its pointless, its not fun and never will be. Put me straight into the actual situations you want to be in.

>There is no solution. Space is a boring setting for a video game.
absolutely not, space is fun, the main thing about space games is exploration, you do that part well and you already completed 50% of the job
now 2nd and more complicated part is adding other stuff
good combat is very vital, both space combat and on-foot gunplay, you can have shit like bounty hunting and chasing bounties across space, but they actually need to be fun and challenging and not just reach the target and thats it
ECONOMICS, a huge part in space games, you do shit like X4 where you add an insanely detailed and dynamic economy simulation and you will have hours of fun with it (if you are into that)
actually good "jobs" shit like mining, ED has that one type of mining where you have to put probes or some shit thats very dynamic and actually a ton of fun, dont remember what its called as its been years since i last played ED, add transport jobs, where you transport people/goods through space
theres so fucking much you can add, its literally limitless
you can add planetary and inter planetary warfare
each system or each planet can have factions and wars and territory control, kinda like Planetside 2 but on a grander scale
all of this is possible but would cost insane amount of money and require incredibly competent and passionate devs to develop
so ideally Scam Citizen money + passionate NMS devs and you'd probably have this

I'm not gonna design your game for you for free, Sean.

With this update, I would connect it to the piracy update so you could board other ships through EVA and get actual combat gameplay.

theres literally zero trading in Starfield and i already said that bounties should be dynamic and not just reach the target and thats it

it literally cannot be a space game, and not even close to best due to it being a loading screen simulator, if it had no loading screen and you could physically land on planets and explore planets without loading screens it probably would be there as one of the best but that alone kills any sort of immersion of it being a space game

you literally cannot drive a monster truck in nms
its vehicles have no inertial physics and drive exactly the same in low gravity as they do in earth gravity (badly) there are no interesting places to drive them or challenging terrain to navigate. it's just faster walking with an object kill radius, not an actual vehicle.

Nothing because crafting-survival games are just shit by design, what space dads want is mount and blade in space, I want something like X4 or Starsector but better. You think building your own ship is cool? Now think about entire armada designed and build by you, blowing up xenos like nobody's business.

it's insane
playing it is like a fever dream, you're trapped in a game with all this "stuff" and nothing to actually do with any of it. even though you can manually terraform planets and build bases and see some interesting stuff there's nothing to actually do with any of it. it's just there. like there is a whole upgrade system for guns and spacecraft you barely ever use, none of the research or discovery you do ever begets anything new or contibutes to a whole, it's just "wow you found planet dsfargeg nobody has ever been here before have credits" and you get down there and there's a fucking trade hub and buildings and npcs flying around like it's been inhabited the whole fucking time
Anonymous No.719239295
It just feels empty.
Planets are barren places where all you can do is jog around and shoot laser at minerals or deal with baddie drones.
Outposts are all the same.
Hubs are large halls with the same stalls.
People are all faceless robots or ugly frogs.

Again. Again with this shit! Sean! For fucks sake, when will you learn? Open build menu, slap shit together, press done, if you have enough moolah - build the ship, if you don't - store yhe design. But NO! Buy parts that occupy precious inventory space! Just KNOW how many particular parts you might wanna use! For crying out loud, fucking Shartfield got it right. Come on!

If you actually play the story and understand the lore on even a basic surface level, there's nothing contradictory about any of this. The korvax, gek and vykeen aren't real. They're literally in-universe npc simulations being spawned to populate areas you discover.

so the entire game is irrelevant because the universe you play in is all just a big game in and of itself, none of the characters or races or languages or events are actually real or matter at all, and the devs unironically use this bullshit ass metanarrative as an excuse to have lazy incongruent npc spawns?
are you actually fucking kidding? please tell me you're trolling.
