I'm confused with the lore now of Borderlands

In this trailer Vex is I think on her homeworld and everyone's crazy, violent and chaotic... I thought according to the lore of Borderlands 1 this was something that happened on Pandora that people lost their minds and became violent and what not because of the whispering of the vault? I mean I know the corporations were always super corrupt, shady and ruthless but not just the general public. So what's going on now? Why did she kill all those peoples with no remorse and it's taken so casually?

I don't take the writing anywhere near serious when I learnt the respawn machines don't actually exist in game and are just a gameplay abstraction that happens to be themed arround the world and fit said world perfectly

Everyone lost their shit on Pandora because all the big corpos mining the planet at the time (DAHL Atlas and whoever else) up and fucked off after deeming the planet worthless / too hostile and the abandoned all their crews and left them to fend for themselves, aka the now Bandits scattered everywhere. Over time they just lost their minds even more.

Maybe Gearbox fucked up again because nobody currently at the company played Borderlands 1 and have now gone "ummm ackshually everyone across the galaxy is just le heckin psycho crazy isn't that just simply epic" because that's exactly what I would expect from them, but with more reddit.

This shift definitely happened in 3 too
I also distinctly remember the lore of the first game being that Pandora, being a hellish wasteland with alien relics populated by abandoned workers of corporations, was specifically full of people who went insane because of how brutal life is there. Over time it seemed to turn into "Well actually everyone in the galaxy is insane and cuhrazy and doesn't give a damn about human life, isn't that wacky and fun", probably because Gearbox thought it would be funnier/easier if they could write everyone to be the same brand of slightly chaotic goofy punk misfit instead of trying to ground their world in anything
