A shitty minigame to replaced the casino mini in one of the DS pokemon games because the EU bitched about gambling in games. It was really lazily added to. Instead of 1 big building with lots of NPC roaming around, it was made into a tiny room with an old man. Voltorb Flip was based and an unironic low IQ filter. You could consistently get enough coins to buy any TM or Poke you wanted in less than an hour with skill alone, compared to spamming the slots for hours or grinding for money.

Voltorb Flip becomes almost pure RNG at around Lv. 5-6, but unlike previous games, there's no option to just exchange Coins for Poke directly. This minigame being marginally less shitty than slots wasn't an excuse for removing the only tolerable way to buy prizes.

You may bitch about it, but ultimately, the EU is right about gambling have no place in non-adult games. In a just world, gambling would be outlawed, but that doesn't work, like with prostitution, so we have to deal with it. Doesn't mean we shouldn't fight it wherever it's possible and feasible. Devs should have implemented the replacement mechanic better.

Even as someone who liked Voltorb Flip over the slots, this is blatantly untrue.
Sinnoh's slots with the Helpful Clefairy would get you TMs far quicker than Voltorb Flip.
Voltorb Flip should have started with a higher initial payout that stacked higher faster.

It is a game of mostly skill and occasionally chance, but it is not gambling since you do not wager coins, and the only coins you can "lose" are ones that you had not yet won to begin with.

I liked voltorb flip. it at least required some semblance of skill even if it did come down to luck sometimes. the slots were pure luck. the only issue was that it was required for some TMs

The worst part about Vortorb Flip is that it became pure luck after a few levels, while slots were greatly improved with FR and LG, since you could actually time them for consistent jackpots. Fuck Voltorb Flip.
