I honestly love the phenomenon of men getting weird around women in competitive online games, it's funny in a silly, wholesome way.
Until it happens in MMORPGs. Then it rapidly gets fucking weird the more obscure the MMORPG is and the more high-end your raid is.

I don't think it's too common. I could only ever do this in Battlefield. I remember doing it in Call of Duty and people would either try to corner trap you or demand sexual favours.

I don't play the genre much so I wouldn't know. I saw it in Overwatch a lot though for the brief time I played.
I ran a Conan Exiles server for some MMORPG friends for a while and quite literally every single player on the server was a woman. It was kind of cool because they all cared about the shit they built.

Used to roll with a lady back in BFV on occasion. One of the most dedicated medics I've ever seen, she'd fight through a whole army to get that revive. Nobody ever gave her shit, and she did all that while audibly caring for her twin boys. What a legend.

I've seen more than enough blatant misogyny online to know that there's nothing silly or wholesome about it. Those fuckers ain't shit. Though I did notice that they clam up real quick when the lass on the other end hits them with the bantz. They just don't know how to respond to it. Saw that a few times during my brief stint in COD. Shit, I saw more women using their mics in COD than any other online game I've played. Fuckin weird that.

All of those guys just wanted between my legs I'm very aware. I would just exploit that to get carried every game. Now no one is on voice chat so even if I wanted to I can't do it. Misogyny depended on game. Call of Duty had the most bigotry. Halo people never cared. In fact Halo was the most boring because no one wanted between your legs or hated you because of your tits. The most I ever got was rowdy High School kids who would make the occasional joke about me being a woman with no interest in me beyond that.
