It is over for Nintendo
A reliable leaker has just confirmed that the Steam Deck 2 will release in late 2028. It will be significantly stronger than the original Steam Deck, possibly bringing handheld gaming into the next generation.

All AMD insiders are saying 2027, most likely early 2027.

Not him but KeplerL2. Kepler said 2028, that doesn't mean late 2028 but just sometime in 2028. 2028 will have Steam Deck 2, PS6 handheld, and OEM Xbox handheld using the Magnus APU in the next gen in-house Xbox home console but no backwards compatibility, and like the ROG Xbox Ally, will just be a PC again.

Nintendo? I want them to save us from Microsoft.
Anonymous No.719227195 >>719231945
I like the Steam Deck but unless Epic Games does hardware specific optimisations for "porting" to the Steam Deck, it's completely useless for a refresh. It's possible since they know the target hardware but unless Valve or someone convinces them, a second Deck is a waste.

Without engines making hardware specific optimisations, realistically what the deck can currently play, is the limit without sacrificing weight and size.
Anonymous No.719228226
Well, given that Sony and Microsoft are optimizing their games for Steam Deck with Microsoft doing it because of the ROG Xbox Ally and the Steam Deck still being graphically better than the Switch 2, I can see why they're waiting that long. My guess is Valve will release the Steam home console in late 2027 using a cut-down custom variant of the Magnus APU in the next gen Xbox while using a low-powered version of the same APU for the Steam Deck 2 in early 2028. The Fremont specs show a disabled GPU within its APU while having a discrete GPU. The Magnus APU has both the Zen 6 CPU and the RDNA 5 GPU separate from each other meaning that could be Valve trying to replicate that with their prototype Fremont.

With lossless now running beefy games at acceptable framerates I'm inclined to agree. There's not many ways they could improve upon the OLED hardware wise. Most of the improvements are still coming in via software. I fucking love that this device that sold a fraction of the units the Switch did still gets infinitely more support from not just Valve, but the community. This is how a video game system should be.

Both. But they've already saved me from Nintendo. Now Proton/Linux just needs a little bit more work before it's objectively the better choice over windows.

is this a discord tranny raid? the catalog is full of brain damaged threads talking about the switch 2 being a failure a day after we got numbers showing it was a huge hit in the us

is this really what the board will be like for the entire generation?

that's like 20 years from now
switch 2 will have already made plenty of sales
its also not a problem cause switch 2 isn't the real next nintendo console, its like the pro for the ps4
they will release the true next console sometime

2028 as a window is pretty fortuitous. Next gen Medusa family on N3 is again a half step up from the current Strix family. If a 2028 launching product has its tapeout in mid 2027 then it would likely be designed around a more advanced and refined variant of N2 GAA. The PPA improvements vs N3 FinFET will be huge. Performance gains based on process alone will be immense without even considering uplift from arch.
A potential Deck 2 might be comparable to something like a current mid range gaming laptop, but inside of a 15w envelope.

They don't have to try to compete, they just crush by doing their own thing. Consoles are dying and PC (and mobile) is killing them, and PC is killing them because Valve saved PC.

Valve's own hardware isn't what Nintendo has to worry about. Valve doesn't care about the mere hardware itself or who makes it, they know everyone is going to use Steam anyway. It's what Valve is quietly doing. They never set out to murder Xbox or get all of Sony's games on Steam either. They just silently overtook consoles and now they're facilitating the encroachment on an area where Nintendo had a total free reign borderline monopoly, the handheld space.

This shit is not portable, it needs to be half the size/price and get triple the battery duration.

This will not exit the niche of pc gaming entusiast who wants to play on the bed.

Anonymous No.719241031
Way earlier than that official sources were saying November 2026. This isn't going to be a Nintendo situation where they have no idea how much they're missing out by not releasing the same console every year and calling it an upgrade like Apple does.

PC gaming is dying too because everyone is getting priced out of gaming. A decent mid-range graphics card is now $900. That's for the 5070 Ti and the 9070. Even that will only barely play UE5 games.

You are not wrong with SW2 also becoming fuckhuge, but you can still separate screen from controls, play with more people and use tv at home.
A smaller lite version will also be made.

But the deck is just a massive joke for a supposed "portable" system.

>PC gaming is dying too
You are insanely out of touch. PC gaming is by far and away better than it's ever been and keeps growing. It's also crazy cheap or outright free to get loads of games and even craptops can play most of the games out there. Even if you wanted to play a high end game, you can get a GPU that blows every console out of the water for only about $350. Console fanboys love to pretend you need some 2k rig just to compete with a ps5 and it's total bullshit.

Plus, everyone needs a pc anyway because they're actually useful devices, so just slap in whatever gpu you can afford and it will still be better than a console.

Each one of those got closer and closer. The Vita would have succeeded if Nintendo didn’t pull scummy shit like the sudden 3ds price cut.
