I feel like it's pretty obvious isn't it? most games don't absolutely demand thjat you fully engage with it. it's kind off bs, you look away from the screen for a minute and you miss some stupid little spot and now your searching for hours. life too fucking short to spend all my energy looking at the screen. there is responsibilites that distract you.

The perfect length for a game is 8 hours. I have never played Hollow Knight but I can tell looking at screenshots there is no fucking way it justifies a 20 hours time to beat or whatever.

nta but you are braindead if you think Hollow Knight doesn't respect your time. In fact it actively rewards you for paying attention i.e. investing your time. That is the absolute antithesis of disrespecting your time.
I understand long games aren't for everyone and sometimes you do just want to turn your brain off, but just because a game doesn't cater to your specific preferences doesn't make it bad on its own.
Take your (you), you've earned it big boy.

No, the perfect length for a game is 3 hours or less, so that there is no filler or padding and you can replay it in a single sitting.

Please define "respects my time" as detailed as possible.
What are the criteria for a video game to become something that respects time when different users value their activities differently?

OP doesn't actually like video games and wants to get them over with as soon as possible so he can claim his imaginary social credit for having played .

"Not respecting his time" means the game is long enough to make this chore especially hard for him.

I don't know if you're sarcastic but I agree with your post to an extreme degree.
I love long and meticulous games, so long as there's an enjoyable content behind it and not the generic ubisoft collect-a-thon.

Your logic is predicated on the idea that the developer intended it, therefore it is good. You're basically saying that no design decision can ever be bad or even discussed so long as the developer intended it and it's not a bug, and that's fucking retarded
Anonymous No.719231615 >>719231661 >>719232064

yeah, i believe that because you cannot design objective metrics for "good" design
some decisions that work in specific games - don't work in others. it all depends on what the developer is going for

it doesn't work in brawl because it completely destroys pacing of an otherwise fast fighting game

A game not respecting your time is a game that timegates progression.
For example being forced to do all side content to progress.
Or requiring grinding to progress, no matter how well you play.
HK doesn't do that, even if you don't know the map or what to do at all times, there are plenty of areas and content which is completely optional.
You don't need to play the Colliseum of the Fool, you don't need to beat the mimic boss and so on.
If you just want to get through the game and only play the highlights nothing is stopping you.

Fast travel anywhere at any time is the mark of shit desighn and not having it doesn't mean the game doesn't respect your time, it means the game expects you to respect it's map design.

At this point I'm convinced "respect the player's time" is just another way to say "this game that was not designed to appeal to me does not appeal to me, this cannot stand". Same with "bad game design".

I dropped it at the 3rd world, because I knew precisely it was going to be a waste of time. There's nothing interesting to explore and nothing to collect except coins. Only reason you would actually engage in any of this filler is for muh lore like some wannabe Soulsfag. Why would anybody give a shit about these bug freaks or their dumb lore?
