This game collection would be an absolute masterpiece if it wasn't for all the out of place and ugly black/female characters destroying immersion and constantly reminding you how retarded left-wing people today are with "muh representashun!"

I wonder what the /v/ reception would have been if the default sorting option within the game was alphabetical, like in the physical game manual that they're making. Instead of chronological.
So many people just play the first row and then drop the game.

Some of these games were so surprisingly good and cool. It was amazing to experience Grimstone actually being a good jrpg, Fist Hell being a good bmup, two good action-platformers (Ninpek and Velgress), excellent strategy games.
And then on top of that, god tier games that you won't find anywhere else like Magic Garden, Night Manor, Valbrace, Mortol.

I like the action games in this because they're a nice difficulty for me in-between retro and modern games. I couldn't beat them all but I cleared a lot, and it's shocking how easy stuff like this is for guys who grew up playing NES or were into arcade games.

You are in the wild west along the mexican boarder you fucking dumbass. Most western movies had more native americans and mexicans either in the background or otherwise if they tried to be even slightly authentic and didn't have the whole movie take place in a gold mining town. The only white dude would be the leading man and everyone else was mexican or native as he traveled alone fighting off bandits and shit.

I was on a gaming discord last year trying to find gaming friends (a huge fucking mistake) and seriously the most obnoxious woke trannies went ape shit over this game and would not shut the fuck up about it. That was the first thing that made me hate it, but I tried it anyways because I like spelunky
>>719227358
And then this showed up, forced brown characters all over the place like a goddamn ubisoft game. That also annoyed me.

I played all the games and really it finally dawned on me that these were all mediocre experimental games that would have been on newgrounds 20 years ago. And this game is for zoomers that didn't get to experience flash gaming, being able to select between a bunch of short meh to solid experimental 2d games with decent ideas but poor execution. Just UFO 50 lacks all the edgyness because zoomers and leftists would cry and shit their pants

I've only played a couple STGs (DoDonPachi, ZeroRanger, Eschatos, the Frantic and Reactance series-es back when Flash was a thing, a couple in arcades like Raiden 2 and R-Type, EinhΓ€nder, Drainus), but I generally tend to enjoy what I've played of the genre even if they're pretty tough games.

Star Waspir is... not enjoyable. One quarter of it of it feels like the game gets too ridiculous right out of the gate with its enemies and the sheer speed at which their bullets move, which makes it difficult to adapt to the game when it's immediately throwing snipers at you. Another quarter is the visual design, because Star Waspir's visuals manage to make me feel like I'm getting eye strain while playing and I'm not sure I can articulate why entirely.

The other half is the power-up system. I've kind of come to expect gimmicky chaining systems for score multipliers as just part of the genre (my personal favorite multiplier gimmick is graze mechanics like in Frantic), but when you're doing chaining gimmicks for power-ups, then things have been taken too far. The power-ups aren't even "permanent until you get tagged" either, they're either time-limited or breakable, which just makes the whole system feel bad to engage with since what you get for the effort doesn't feel as impactful as it really should if they're meant to only last a few seconds. Even 1943, which had time-limited power-ups, has them deliver a significant impact and gives you some actual time to use them.

It's a shame, since I like the other STG I've played so far in the pack (Caramel Caramel).

It seem to me to that the devs felt obliged to put games in the shmup genre because they were quite common in the 1980s, but without really knowing how to do it.
Xevious from 1982 is more advanced n terms of game design than all the UFO50 shmups.
I also think that shmups are too β€œpure” a genre, and the UFO50 games don't try to hide the fact that they're indie games (and not β€œretro” games), and because indies apparently can't make games without adding gimmicks, UFO50 shmups have become too gimmicky and silly.
And finally, Star Waspir is probably the worst game of this kind I've ever played, at least considering everything from 1982 onwards.

Most of my time so far was spent on Barbuta and Cyber Owls so far, I play a lot of retro games but what they expect of me is a little surprising. They both seem like they could have been full releases on their own from what I dipped my toes into so far.

There is everything wrong with it. It presents itself as this RTS-game where you should gather resources, build workers and soldiers and then command and lead them to victory. But in practice its John Rambo the game. You get the enemy stuck shooting at the wrong angle, then you kill them, repeat until they are all dead. There was that one map where you had to lure the spider to enemy base and that was interesting.

The overall lore of the studio can be kinda parsed together as you go, but its subtle. The "hidden" stuff I can give you the hint to get started, and after that you can do it 100% on your own. It was surprisingly fun too, but you should have at least some experience in most of the games in the collection.

Hint 1: read the description for Night Manor carefully
Hint 2. Type greg-milk into the terminal
