So, Clair Obscur, Elden Ring Nightreign, and Donkey Kong are the only good games so far this year? That's fucking bleak.

The big cheese: Kangdom Cum 2, Split Fiction, Blue Prince
Knower-tier: Abiotic Factor, Skin Deep, Rune Factory Azuma, Survivalist Invisible Strain
Might be good, see on release: Silksong, Ninja Gaiden 4, Tormented Souls 2, Nikita Buyanov's genre defining cult classic Escape From Tarkov

Another disappointing Bejitabro post... we must do better.

The only new release I've enjoyed this year is Abiotic Factor, and I wouldn't say it's a 10/10.

It was actually good? I sorta kept an eye on it for a while since I adored RF3 back on the DS, but I stopped when Fantasy Life I came out since it scratches similar itches for me and the prospect of a new entry even half as good as the first had me salivating. (was disappointed once I had my hands on it, but it was still fun even if i'd only give it a 5.5/10.)

It alright but not as good as Sandrock in my opinion and the things outside of the socializing and farming is not as interesting as Fantasy Life

Yeah, no shit. Industry's been creatively bankrupt for a while now. Half the devs are chasing live service scraps, the other half are burning millions trying to recapture PS2-era magic with bloated cinematic slogs. If anyone still gives a fuck, they're usually stuck making indie games out of a garage with three dudes and a cat. Good games exist, they're just buried under all the noise.

If all you look at is the heavily marketed games, then yes, you're only going to find 2 or 3 good games a year.
Dig into lower budget or more niche titles and see what's out there. Even these large devs are telling people to look at that stuff until AAA either collapses or sorts itself out.

It's good, but in like a 6/10 way. It's budget so it focuses on the things it wants to do and neglects the other aspects, which includes the farming despite the series.
It certainly has issues, but what it does offer was fun enough that it was pretty well received in the threads for it. Criticisms started getting discussed once people settled into the late- or post-game, but even then, they kept playing anyway.
If you already like RF then you'll probably enjoy it.

The Metroid Prime team have all left Retro. Most of the team making MP4 haven't made an original Prime game, they were given prime 1 remaster to get experience on

Played both as a newcomer to the franchise, I think overall Fantasy Life I is better. Azuma is quite enjoyable, but I think a lot of the extra stuff like farming and village building, barely mattered. Increasing the rank of each villages is pretty easy too. I finished the story around Summer, now I barely have anything left to do with the game. Although, I can totally see people not jiving with Life I's grind. Especially late game. They've made it a bit easier, but it still depends on RNG.

If you have the means I really reccomend playing the original FL with it's DLC. It's environmental and dungeon design are both far better. It's job system feels far more robust in both the early and late game. The story is both far better written, and far better suited to the game's tone.

In a bit more detail regarding the life system, there's no skill tree and you can't switch jobs on the fly. You can however use skills you've unlocked in other lives with reduced effectiveness and there's a knife weapon type that any life can use if you don't take a combat life at all. Crafting stations are limited to their specific respective type of crafting, but it makes the recipe lists far more readable and makes the life buildings into places you go to for more than just ranking up. Yes, a lot of this detracts from "quality of life" but in doing so it uplifts the experience of the game and it's loops as a whole. It's damn shameful they traded it out for skilltreeslop.
