If Reach was the last game then the idea of an AI shadow government could of been used on account of the Easter Eggs, but Halo 5 permanently tainted that idea.

Why do you think 343 went to the Banished after their whole "yandere Cortana and her AI rebellion" shit went about as well as anyone would expect? Gutted it of the personality Wars 2 gave them, to make them edgier Covenant knockoffs, to justify a back-to-basics that fucked up royally anyway.

I didnt play Reach until 7 years after release because I thought it looked shit when I saw a video, but it was actually alright. In my opinion the only games worth playing single player are:

>CE
>ODST
>Reach

2 was such a disappointment from the moment I started playing it, after checking halo.bungie.org every day until release.

Different anon here, didn't grow up with broadband internet for a good long while until I moved to my current home back in 2008, but Xbox Live was never exactly a priority even then. So I got to indulge in bits of it but never accumulated online friends (and lost my original account to boot). And I sure as fuck am not paying for Xbox Live now to play the Master Chief Collection nor do I have good space for it on my PC half the time. So yeah, the Halo campaigns were my childhood experience and generally are what I still have today.
Honestly some part of me is half tempted to just slap my OG copies of 2, 3 and Reach in my Series X anyway despite having the MCC. Only had the PC port of CE though, so no dice there.

I bought a case of that Gamerfuel stuff in preparation for Halo 3 back in 2007. Cracked open the first can upon popping the disc into my 360 after getting home from the midnight release

Nearly spat it out all over the carpet after taking my first swig, it tasted like cherry-flavored vomit, and this coming from someone who used to enjoy Code Red. It took me an entire year to get rid of that case of soda in any way I could.

I played 1 and 2s campaign a bunch because it's what my siblings and I had. Multi was only for local pvp (not exactly the full experience between 3 players) or map exploration. I didn't pvp proper until I played a bunch of reach at my friend's house, and haven't played any more since moving away.

343i was trying to chase trends, they were looking at Call of Duty while making Halo 4.

I still don't understand how 343i managed to convince people Forerunners aren't human when 1, 2 and 3 (Ignoring some terminals that muddied the waters) outright had that as plot points.
It's also ignoring Contact Harvest, the best Halo Book.

Anonymous No.719233032 >>719233101

the common talking point was that halo 3 retconned it with the terminals and that 343 guilty spark had simply gone insane explaining his comments.
also bungie themselves didn't consider the books canon either.

Merdicient Bias, one of the forerunner monitors, was founded by the Covenant and talked to the Prophets. The damn thing pretty much started humans at the very least are an evolutionary continuation of the forerunners after they wiped the galaxy clean using the Halo rings. This troubled the prophets greatly since this undermined the entire basis for the Covenant's existence and their understanding of the great gods. Hence the genocide campaign against humanity.

Nigger, look up who wrote Contact Harvest.

>look up who wrote Contact Harvest.

The fact Joe Staten wrote Contact Harvest always stood out as odd to me, because Johnson in Contact Harvest rarely sounds like the Johnson from the games. Contact Harvest Johnson just comes off as very generic.

I wonder what Frank O'Connor is up to lately.

>Contact Harvest was 2007
I guess it's a case of just interpreting the character differently in his head and on the page than making the scenes for the games.
Anonymous No.719233698
Also add:
1) None of the books are canon. Not even the ones released during the bungie era.
2) Master Chief was the last spartan. Yes, even Jun did not survive reach.
Anonymous No.719233813 >>719234039 >>719234106
Halo should just focus on making good campaign only games for a while, to build good will amongst the fanbase. Theres no point wasting time and resources on multiplayer if everyone just plays CoD and Battlefield instead. It could mean we get longer campaigns with smarter enemies as well.
Anonymous No.719234039 >>719234106
>>719233813
I agree, but we both know that isn't happening.

I've always played Halo for its campaigns. Every now and then I'd dabble with online multiplayer, but I never bothered with it in MMC for any reason other than to build Spartan Points so I could unlock stuff to use in the campaign. All this time later I still don't have everything I want unlocked.

sounds fucking dumb, I liked the story when I was a dumb kid who didn't understand all the details and the forerunners were mysterious ayys whose tech you used for your own ends to save you from the flood in your own time.

all I know is halo started out as this very down-to-earth military sci fi game, and MC's supposed "luck" was just that, luck, but he was really just an advanced elite soldier in this military that you followed, then they started to do some grand destiny chosen one bullshit and it just lost me. As ethereal as the music was and the unique atmosphere the alien megastructures brought, the framing of the whole thing was grounded in the military stuff, that combo gave it a special feeling which can still be felt with the disposable spartans in Reach. I really dislike what they did later, even if "uh achually that lore existed in the books" or whatever the fuck.
Anonymous No.719235769
>>719235720
Bungie shared your feelings on that. They didn't even want the ODSTs in the games.
