'Ugh, my horror game is too scary.'

If your horror game suddenly becomes less scary in 3rd person, it wasn't scary to begin with. It's pathetic that this is the state of the survival horror genre.

Horror is the worst genre in videogames, even below the cheapest WEGs

RE7 was a jumpscare amusement park ride for streamers.

This is a dumb take, things closer to you are more scary than them being further away.

what RE7 wasn't that scary at all.
I prefer 3rd person because I just prefer seeing the character

This is my point. Jump scares thrown in front of your face are the laziest form of 'scare' possible. It's unimaginative and it's cheap requiring no effort from the developer.
Even the dog jumpscare in RE1 was reinforced by a forced camera angle, buildup and tension. Horror should not be beholden to a PS1 game it should be advancing with new ways to scare the player.

third person is less scary than first person though, you literally have a giant body between yourself and the scary thing going on, creating more of an emotional disconnect

Yeah I'm sure that was the reason. And not because everyone complained since it's the RE standard and should have always stayed that way. The remakes were better in 3rd and so was Rose's mode.

There is much truth to this.
But anyway, we all know why they added 3rd person back in, it's so we can goon on Grace's ass.

Dead Space is the perfect example of this. A lot of the scares in that game are purely environmental and can scare you without even needing an enemy to pop up in front of you. Atmosphere and sound are crucial in a horror game and it's a shame modern devs can't figure that out.

It's a pretty bad sign when the gameplay reminds me more of the nu-Tomb Raider game than anything else.

third person view needs to end forever, its no longer needed.
anyone who needs to see themselves in a game because they dont have spatial awareness is a retard

wrong. in 3rd person view things are not happening to you they are happening to a character you are looking at.

Is there any good horror game that actually feels scary? I like RE games but "scary" is not how I'd describe any of them.

i don't think empathy has anything to do with it, it's easier to get immersed if you're looking through your own eyes and not from a magical shoulder cam

ultimately death or failure removes the tension from a horror game because in the vast vast vast majority of them nothing happening is permanent so feeling scared for your playable character isn't really a thing in TPS games IMO, while being scared because a spooky thing is coming at your screen is much simpler

This.
It's literally the same shit as Amnesia and Outlast. I tried to avoid that trash, only to get hit by the biggest landmine of modern cancers packed into a wannabe RE game.

Crapcum has not made a good RE game in over 15 years.

Thats BS, and not only tells that you lack immersion and empathy skills, but also only ay shitty jumpscare slop, rather than something actually terrifying.

FP and OTS views are literally the same shit, and limit game design and cinematography so much, you can tell when shit is about to hit the fan from a mile away.

>If your horror game suddenly becomes less scary in 3rd person, it wasn't scary to begin with.
Moronic statement, of course limiting player POV and visibility affects horror. Why do you think so many of the classics used fixed camera angles?
Less scary also doesn't mean 'not scary at all', you've just chosen to read it that way so you can pretend you have a point.

>forced camera angle
The forced camera angle limited your perspective. Unlike a free moving third person camera. First person is closer to that forced camera angle approach because your perspective is more limited.

The game has like 15 enemies in total. The only good part is the house.
