i played a firearms ventrue that sucked off lacroix for 70% of the game, i got the downtown apartment, i joined the anarchs for the last portion after they had already been mad at me in non talking terms for a while and in the end i said fuck you to them too and got the independent (the best and canon) ending

Most VTMB fans can't even identity what made 1 good, or what they'd want out of a sequel. Besides of course 'just make the 20 year old game again bro'. People seem to be getting angry over calling it a sequel because it doesn't have 2000s grunge playing in the background and a vitae bar on the left hand side.

Most NPCs are walking bloodbags who wander the same circles over and over again. Guns are worthless because by the time they become good the game is basically over. 90% of quests only have a single ending. Dialogue differences are superficial the vast majority of the time. I could go on and on about the flaws of it, because lets be honest there's a FUCK ton.

The reason it's so good is because it's utterly drenched in atmosphere, and the earnest display of the goofy as fuck world that is VTMB completely carried it. If 2 can deliver a similarly immersive atmosphere and bring the world to life, it'll be fine.

Motherfucker, the atmosphere is what the sequel is most prominently lacking even outside its gameplay that looks even worse the original's. The 2000's grunge is because the setting is supposed to be dark gothic version of our modern world. People bring up ISOLATED and WHEN YOU'RE TAUGHT THROUGH FEELINGS every thread because the aesthetic is completely unique and has never been attempted since. Even the UI is indicative of this; it's stylized and mostly done to resemble a character sheet from the TTRPG along with additions that makes it ooze personality like the Masquerade Violations counter and even the blood pool. You don't notice how it sucks you in but your brain does. Every part of the presentation is perfect and synchronized. Compare that with the absolutely bland presentation of the sequel with a UI that's copied and pasted from a million other "AAA" titles and you can see that the atmosphere has been sucked out of the game through a straw.

Guns can get good from Hollywood if you cared about the playstyle. NPCs are walking bloodbags, yes, but at least the act of feeding is given fitting gravitas as opposed to the sequel's Glory Kill animation bullshit.

What's funny is that gangrel was kinda shit compared to brujah because celerity was super strong, protean was cool but for example in that mission with the zombies you struggled to kill them all with protean because you weren't fast enough to deal with every zombie in time, while toreador and brujah had no problem whatsoever because they were basically neo from the matrix
