Prime 4 isn't just a safe Prime 1 retread (SM upgrades, Ice/Fire/Grass worlds, Space Pirates, Ridley) with bigger areas. Does a lot of unique stuff, like Prime 2.
Prime 4 is non-linear like M1, SM, and ZM.
Physic powers are a meaningful gimmick, not just window dressing (e g. Dark World vs. Hypermode)
Sylux is heavily involved in the plot.

Retro is already working on Prime 5, comes out in 2-3 years.

Prime 4 is a safe, 8/10 Prime 1 retread. SM upgrades like charge/wave/ice/plasma beams, similar areas (bro remember Phendrana drifts?!?), and Ridley. Biggest differences are the larger areas.
Prime 4 is linear like Prime 1-3.

Had some bullshit Kaizo problems on patch 1.0 and has an unironic Water Temple water elevation segment for AQA. The story explains itself worse than Fusion did and also leads in on the Adam and Metroid lab twists at the very start for some reason, while also not explaining anything about WHY Samus is in her new suit or what the fuck happened to her with the X infection, and softly implying (probably just through a badly written line) that she's still vulnerable to the X in some fashion while being able to absorb and eat them.

Presentation is amazing, and there's a lot of technical prowess behind it, but it's not a great hack. Perfect springboard for any other Fusion styled hack, awful on its own. Additionally for some reason the patch to give GBA style controls also mixes up L and R for no reason so you have to reverse those in the in-game control remapping anyways, and it disables gear toggling which the Super Metroid control scheme allows for, for no real reason. Saves are cross-compatible between the two control style patches at least.

Oh additionally additionally Metaquarius made the strange decision to restrict walljumps to Fusion style, it's flipping like one or two bytes to undo it and he feels strongly enough that he's asked nobody make an IPS companion patch to restore them. Much like Fusion it's also not very useful to have one-wall walljumps (in Fusion it's only really a gamechanger for early Plasma Beam in TRO's bowels) so it's not known why he feels so strongly about it

I just...don't like prime very much. I appreciate the abstract of a navigation/adventure focused first person game but that's about it. the aesthetics and gameplay never really struck me.

the metroid vaccine in fusion makes sense for the logistics of the intro and the somewhat harder scifi vibe the game has compared to the rest of series, but it was not worth undermining the lore of the baby metroids sacrifice at the end of super. they should have directly called back to that incident for why samus was immune to the x parasite instead of cheapening it to the level that anyone could be immune to the parasite with the handy crafted vaccine. the exceptional nature of that incident is more in keeping with the radical change samus undergoes.

Aesthetically/thematically I am not fond of the psychic powers, wish they'd just used suit tech to do whatever the powers do.

Gameplay wise I hope prime 4 has something to spice up the combat. Playing prime remake, combat was probably the part that aged the worst. Not too interested in locking on, mashing shoot, and repeatedly strafe-dodging again.

I had always thought that Metroids just have the power to steal abilities due to Super Metroid with the Hyper Beam and Metroid Fusion in general sort of validating that. Instead it is just the cooperation between two related systems like it was always meant to be.

Recently played Super Metroid
Legitamtely one of the best games I've ever played, I understand the hype now
