It's terrible. Most stuff from that literal sliver of indie game history was completely terrible. News outlets gassed up a bunch of hipsters shitting out low-effort slop filled with tons of pseud narrative, and now 9 out of every 10 redditor dipshit thinks "iT aLL sTaRtEd wItH tHeM" There's been so much good stuff, HIGH EFFORT stuff, before and after this wet fart of an era, yet you s0ys keeping jerking your limp little dicks over shit like Braid, or VVVVVV, or etc.

VVVVV was a decent platformer with good music. Braid was a crap platformer with good art. It wasn't all poser shit though. After all, the game of the decade was Minecraft, a game so indie /v/ was the original playtesters for it.

The gameplay was quite interesting it's the only unique thing about this game, the art is decent but everything else, including the le vague story to make people endlessly theorycraft and the written exposition, is mid to bad. However its success gave some people and the creator himself the impression he was some kind of indie megagenius, even though the rest of his creative input is mid.

I preferred super meat boy.

It was the trendy puzzle indie of that time, and it had a nice presentation. The modern equivalent would be something like void stranger.
It had a lot of novelty in the gameplay and the way it presented the story, but unfortunately that novelty has worn off. Despite that, the core puzzle gameplay is fun and many of the puzzles are admittedly pretty clever.

it was alright but way too hard doing anything but the main storyline

I played this on release, I thought the puzzles were neat and I enjoyed it well enough. I kinda forgot about it and moved on. A few weeks ago, someone posted that old Soulja Boy vid in one of these threads and I watched it again for a laugh, and now I'm getting tons of Jonathan Blow circlejerk channels recommended to me where they elevate him as some kind of genius. And it's kinda funny reading interviews with him where he thinks his game is some kind of high art with a serious, deep message. Also he thinks he's an authority on game development and everyone else just "doesn't get it." At least that's the impression that I got from him. That's why that Soulja Boy video is so funny.
