Snake, did I ever tell you about Operation Virtuous Mission? The CIA sent me to extract the Russian scientist Sokolov. Only at the same time, the CIA orchestrated The Boss's defection to Colonial Volgin. As part of her defection, she needed to give Sokolov to Volgin. So the CIA sent her to steal Sokolov from me after sending me to steal him from the research facility one zone over, instead of having her just steal Sokolov directly and not involving me at all. Anyway, he was a good friend.

>MGS newfags pointing out the campy plotpoints acting all smart
It's on the same level of taking a James Bond movie seriously. It makes you look like a complete retard. But do go on, it's entertaining to watch you embarrass yourselves.

What? The whole Sokolov mission was a decoy so that The Boss would earn Volgin's trust, by going "oh by the way my old retarded student is stealing your scientist let me just help you out on the way". Snake was never meant to succeed, he was only meant to look like he was succeeding and the betrayal had to look real to fool Volgin.

The plan went out the window when Volgin then nuked Russia straight away and the US had to save face by having their only remaining operative in the field fix everything.

They sent Snake there to be killed by her to help build rapport with Volgin, and/or as witness to testify to her defection if he survived.

What would be the point of this? It was a top secret op and the US was planning for her to defect, there was no need for a witness

Every MGS story is dumb. It was amazing when games were bad at telling stories, but play them now and you see they're nonsensical, full of plot holes and retcons.
Kojima is not the amazing storyteller he thinks he is.

As loose as his plotting is, he's one of the few writers in the industry who isn't afraid to get explicitly political and who comes off like he actually reads a book from time to time.

Complain about him all you want but he's one of the very few writers in games who at least tries.

Glad someone else played the game. Before Volgin went full retard with the Davy Crockett, the Virtuous Mission's true purpose was to make the Boss's defection look real to Volgin so she could get in good with his unit in order to get the Philosopher's Legacy and details of whatever weapon Sokolov was working on.
Snake was sent in to make the defection look even better by having The Boss beat the shit out of or even kill her apprentice in front of Volgin. Snake and Sokolov were completely expendable.

I think Kojima has the bones of a great writer. He just badly needs an editor.

All his games read like the first draft of a great script.

They make it pretty clear that Volgin firing the nuke was unexpected and fucked everything up. That’s what made the USA have to prove their innocence.

Yeah but you'd have to play the game to know that.
So many people think the reason Snake has to kill the Boss is just because she defected, when that isn't the case at all.
