Nah it was alright, as long as you have low expectation and know that nothing really happens in the story (as with all Shenmue games aside from the last half of 2), it's OK.
The story being repetitive on top nothing really happening was shit, combat is also meh but combat in Shenmue was never that good anyways, in a bright side of things variety of mini-games in S3 is definitely the best in the series.

Anyway, in my view, S3 was worse than some of the other successful KS games simply because the devs abandoned the game and never really patched it or responded to any feedback.
One of the modders for example literary gave them a working script to fix their broken NPC scheduling and they never bothered implementing it, leaving it only as a fan mod for PC version (which now they are implementing as a paid upgrade in S3Enhanced).
I mean, as much as also people shit on Bloodstained, IGA and his team updated the game for free for whopping 5 years, pretty much delivering nearly all of the KS stretch goals, with stuff like extra game modes, online coop/pvp, new characters, graphic revamp, costumes and all that shit.
Shenmue 3 cut out one entire town, one entire story chapter, additional game mode, extra playable characters and all they said is "sry lol, deep silver doesn't want to give us any more money".

It's still a mandatory, unskipable part of the game, that was completely good and fine in the previous entries. And considering how much more emphasis is placed on grinding and stats when compared to the predecessors, it ends up taking up much more of the game than it really needs to.

Shenuha and all the other girls were fucking hot in this game. Village was comfy, but Niaowu was only bearable because of Rose Garden and Chobu-chan, it was clear they just ran out of budget and decided to focus only on side content.
I think what's the most retarded about Niaowu especially is how much fucking shops, food and unique items there are in it, but it's just so unpopulated that it feels like a ghost town.

I am replaying Shenmue now, and I wish they had remade these games instead of going straight to Shenmue 3 as a new game. They could have just made one game called Shenmue and have it include content of the first two games and a little bit of what managed to be good in Shenmue 3 instead.
