The first one was fucking amazing, albeit it didn't start that way.

It was kinda barebones at release since it was only up to lvl 26 or so and only had the VoG raid.

I would say the game felt like a more complete package (how it should've been at launch) when they added in Crota (second raid).

Of course, iron banner and trials of Osiris were pog and you even had the companion app that could move items between characters and even phone apps for teammate finding for raids. It was a whole experience and hit levels of 9/10

DESTINY 2 WAS FUCKING MID AT LAUNCH. There you go. That was d1's problem. Being abandoned for D2

D1 was probably the last shooter I enjoyed, doing TTK and Wrath of the Machine with the nerds of /dg/ at launch was an experience

Agreed. It sometimes bugs me that D1 came to an end and D2 became this inflated, bloated, piece of shit that deletes content. D1 looked great, played great, and just needed updates and DLC at a consistent rate. Every strike, gun, and planet they added to D2 they could have just added to D1 and kept it going.

Never having a clear vision on what they actually wanted this game to be. Ever since D2 launched it's been a rotating carousel of game directors that all pivot the game in a different direction, wasting tons of manpower on systems overhauls that only end up lasting a few years before the next director orders another one.

D1 would have ended up the exact same way if they just kept updating it forever. The games were just not designed for years of support in mind, the release schedule they based everything around was a new numbered release every few years.

Bungie is just a never ending story of incompetence.

Is there any reason why they couldn't have just treated it as an MMO and left areas where they could add shit and just increase the level cap every few months? Haven't played Destiny since Tyrion still voiced the robot btw

1 ended in the best place it reasonably could have. But 2? Pure and utter greed, dogshit modern writers raised only on cartoons and capeshit, and hiring on literal sociopaths in creative control postions to "maximize engagement" that turned nearly every timed event or general piece of content into the the kind of grindy fomo shit that'd make a korean dev blush to rope in the stockholm syndrome'd playerbase just long enough to artificially bloat player numbers for shareholder reports. Seemed to have worked because they scammed Sony for nearly $4 billion.
