I much prefer the second game, but having said that, I recently buyinget it for the Switch and good god, is the meta progression of this game two packs of ass.

I'm not even talking about the shrines. Those are fine. They're common enough, fun and soulful, so it feels rewarding.

But, when you start the game, you need to unlock:
>Characters
>Paths for your characters
>Stagecoach equipment slots
>Proper inventory size
>All the inn and stagecoach items which are indispensable
You even need to unlock Healing Salve and Invigorating Intoxicant. That's fucking crazy. I use those items every single run.

Kingdoms has everything unlocked. It’s like a “skirmish” mode in an RTS.

I enjoy Kingdoms, but holy cow does it become tedious at the end. There’s so many sieges happening. I wonder if it would have ever been possible to do Confessions WITHIN Kingdoms? Find some kind of hybrid progression or something.

I like DD2, but saying it doesn’t respect your time is just a fact. The progression is super wonky and it’s not well designed in a way to play in chunks. A typical run taking 3 hours just to get instantly wiped at a boss because you haven’t been clued into the gimmick is really bad design.

Just beat the Coven campaign. Had a lot of fun with it. Definitely felt a lot easier than the first campaign, but part of it is because I know the strategies now. I want to replay it and try to game the system a bit so that I can use the anti-witch blade for a long time. I feel like I'd be able to knock out the "Complete 5 contracts" achievement like this.

Also, now that I know that it's way easier to get the witch coins than I originally thought, I no longer need to throw myself at lair boss fights and lose all of my original party.

This game rules. I will never understand how people prefer the first one.

Everything went wrong.

The Stagecoach is nothing but time filler between nodes. I guess they forgot that hallways had loot, traps, special encounters, hallway fights, lore objects, etc. The walking portion was very tense, but engaging. The Stagecoach is alt-tab time.

Candles are utterly nonsensical. There's so much shit wrong with them it's unbelievable. You spend the vast majority of your time choosing less optimal routes to farm fucking Candles, and doing stupid as fuck side objectives like letting your god damn healer get the final blows on enemies. And then once you DO unlock everything, Shrines/Candle objectives become utterly worthless! A waste of UI space and dead nodes in regions.
I remember one selling point was "Wow look there's like a billion ability combos because each hero has 12 abilities!" lmao. Most of the abilities have shit balance and don't synergize well, so you end up choosing the most optimal ones every single time.

Boss balance sucks ass. It's completely dependent on your team comp, which means 90% of the run is decided before you even start. 1 had SIGNIFICANTLY better balance. You could take any wacky ass team comp into a run and if you knew what you were doing could get through it all fine.
The overall tone is dumb as fuck too. The first game had a slow build up of generic fantasy creatures, to weird fantasy creatures, to dark cultists weirdos, to oh shit eldritch horror. This game shoves all of it in your face from the start. No build up. No tension. Just 'hey go to this big evil mountain five times in a row oh my good look this monster has a finger where it's nipple should be!!!'

The music is significantly worse. The narrator has significantly less memorable lines. Relationship system is still retarded.

The game looks much nicer. The fire enemies/overgrown undead are cool additions.
That's about it. Red Hook is filled with a bunch of fuckin retards who completely blew it.

I can’t bring myself to finish Coven. I hate to see a hero die and I just lost my Abom to 3 crits in a row and instant dead blow fail. I guess I can swap him out with Bountyhunter and clear out the familiar, but it just doesn’t feel the same.

Most of the music serves as ambience, which is fine, and I don't think one game does particularly better than the other on this front.

I'm surprised you beat the first campaign but not the second. The first one felt so much harder to me, from the enemy types to the conditions you had to achieve and especially that fucking final boss.

I really like how both campaigns felt very different to each other in terms of objectives. This mode rules. I like confessions, but at this point I have to admit that Kingdoms is better.
Anonymous No.719264774
Also, speaking of music, this theme from the Coven campaign is really good.

Anonymous No.719264994
>>719264708
The first campaign makes the build up to the enemy abilities much more telegraphed. You have a lot of time to manipulate tokens so someone isn’t getting nuked. Coven on the other hand starts out with you facing 14 damage crits that go right through armor tokens, and then the enemies level up in Escalation 3!

Plus you could cheese Beastmen with the Rabbit pet and have your inventory stuffed with food for silly stuff like a 100 HP plague doctor

You know what? It's time to put my money where my mouth is. Thanks for the heads up.

I must have played this game for free for over 200 hours now. It's so much better than the first game it's not even funny. Here I have been shilling it on /v/ and I had yet to actually pay for the damn thing myself.

No more. I'm joining the DD2chads. Red Hook way outdid themselves and they're getting shit for it because they didn't make the exact same game again but bigger.

Suck my dick.
