Everything went wrong.
The Stagecoach is nothing but time filler between nodes. I guess they forgot that hallways had loot, traps, special encounters, hallway fights, lore objects, etc. The walking portion was very tense, but engaging. The Stagecoach is alt-tab time.
Candles are utterly nonsensical. There's so much shit wrong with them it's unbelievable. You spend the vast majority of your time choosing less optimal routes to farm fucking Candles, and doing stupid as fuck side objectives like letting your god damn healer get the final blows on enemies. And then once you DO unlock everything, Shrines/Candle objectives become utterly worthless! A waste of UI space and dead nodes in regions.
I remember one selling point was "Wow look there's like a billion ability combos because each hero has 12 abilities!" lmao. Most of the abilities have shit balance and don't synergize well, so you end up choosing the most optimal ones every single time.
Boss balance sucks ass. It's completely dependent on your team comp, which means 90% of the run is decided before you even start. 1 had SIGNIFICANTLY better balance. You could take any wacky ass team comp into a run and if you knew what you were doing could get through it all fine.
The overall tone is dumb as fuck too. The first game had a slow build up of generic fantasy creatures, to weird fantasy creatures, to dark cultists weirdos, to oh shit eldritch horror. This game shoves all of it in your face from the start. No build up. No tension. Just 'hey go to this big evil mountain five times in a row oh my good look this monster has a finger where it's nipple should be!!!'
The music is significantly worse. The narrator has significantly less memorable lines. Relationship system is still retarded.
The game looks much nicer. The fire enemies/overgrown undead are cool additions.
That's about it. Red Hook is filled with a bunch of fuckin retards who completely blew it.
