"be better" is millennial nu-speak like "adulting" or "humblebrag". There's already non-retarded ways to say it, but quirky assholes need to make it deliberately grating because they're assholes.
You could say "improve" or "get better" or "train up" or any number of other things, but they say "be better" because they know it's stupid and vague.
