Their average ratings don't necessarily correlate to what the userbase thinks is the best, Astro Bot for example didn't win anything in 2024's GOTY vote whereas Metaphor won three categories despite having an average rating several decimal points lower
In any case, I kinda dislike that Backloggd is becoming more popular and think people treating what's popular there with any credence is a sign of how gaming "discourse" is a few years behind that of other media. I was a latecomer to Letterboxd, but the current state of Backloggd reminds me a lot of how a friend always described the former's decline. It's gotten increasingly numbers-oriented with an uptick in Discord circlejerkers artifically boosting one another's content for the sake of likes (I once saw NOWITSREYNTIME17 bragging about being its most liked reviewer to a some guys on Letterboxd who clearly didn't know or care what Backloggd is), which to me seems almost like they they give more of a shit about that or who posts what than the games they've (allegedly) played. At this point I mostly contribute to it out of an unhealthy mixture of habit, spite and compulsion to ensure that games I care about have at least one review which actually talks about the fucking game as opposed to Karl Marx's anus circumference or whatever

But it also depends on where you look and how niche the game you're looking at is. As
