I think switch to high fidelity and actually realistic graphics overall made suspension of belief much harder to kick in. The fact that MC is just a regular teenage girl doesn't help it either. The scene in OP looks like something that would've been one of those game over deaths in RE4, like when Leon gets sprayed by acid, but just like everything else in the game this girl just tanks it and brushes it off "nothing personnel" style.
