Everyone loves The Homestar Runner. He is a Terrific Athlete.

That wasn't an exaggeration. I'm sure the Brothers Chaps could totally sell out and get a budget and a team to make more H*R content with barely any strings attached at this point. Everyone in the know loves the IP.
But they don't, because they don't want the characters they love to become a chore. And I respect that a lot.

>don’t market it at all, depend entirely on word of mouth
>no ads, no paid content, only source of money is merchandise
>be more or less kid-friendly not out of any moral reasons but just to see how funny you can be with constraints
>somehow get big enough to quit your jobs and make dumb animal cartoons full-time
>get television offer from Cartoon Network but turn it down because you want to stay creator-owned
>generally maintain a low profile, rarely do anything out of character
>even when they show up as themselves they talk about Homestar and nothing else, the focus should always be on their work and not them and they’ll take any thoughts about politics or religion they might have to the grave
The Brothers Chaps are goddamn heroes and it makes me sad there’ll never be anyone else like them. Homestar Runner was always an unlikely success story but with how centralized the Internet is these days it would be pretty much impossible today. Even they upload all their stuff to YouTube now, and while I don’t blame them for adapting with the times it’s still unfortunate they have to.

It's weird that they got almost everything as wrong as possible, but there's exactly one joke they got right. Homestar absolutely would say something like "Something bit me" after getting shot. That's worse than if it were all wrong, because it proves they knew better and chose to go with totally off base edgy nonsense for its own sake, probably fully intending to benefit from the backlash.
Anonymous No.719637309 >>719638293

The most baffling part for me is that after the sketch aired, the Brothers Chaps said that they would have voiced the characters and provided guidance for free and were just never contacted about it. Like they would have been on board to help make it feel as authentic as possible, and the Robot Chicken people didn't even bother.

I agree that it had to be done to get people talking about how bad it was. It can't have come from a place of genuine affinity, because every time Robot Chicken did anything from a place of love, they always tried to be authentic. They'd get the original actors or voice actors in when they could.

I was going to say it at least really feels like a reference the Brothers Chaps would do. But according to the wiki they've never made a Gump reference before, I was just thinking about one of the times they mentioned Dan.
Anonymous No.719640330
>>719639438
I think Forrest Gump is both a little too ubiquitous for Homestar, and also a couple years too late to be in that core period they like to refer back to. Forrest Gump was basically still brand new when they started writing the original Homestar Runner books, and still pretty fresh in the public consciousness when they started making web cartoons.

And in any case, they'd be more likely to come up with a totally fictitious expy movie that exists within the universe of H*R, like a Caleb Rentpayer thing, instead.

I know people have been bugging Strong Bad's twitter for a SBCG4AP Remakester 4 Next Gen Consoles now that Skunkape is done with the Sam & Max trilogy, and it's always some variation of "Maybe, but it didn't sell that well the first time, so would it be worth the effort?"

I feel like SBCG4AP didn't sell that well in the first place because the episodic release just didn't hold attention and it and kind of fell off at the end too, due to budgetary reasons. A remake that lumps the whole thing together would probably do alright.
But what I'd really want is a whole new game built from the ground up. They continually underestimate the staying power and relevancy of their brand. The Dangeresque Roomisode collection didn't sell crazy well because only super fans knew it was out, and plenty of people just assumed they were direct ports of an old Flash game with no new content besides voice acting.

Putting some real effort behind a new game, and having enough of an advertising budget to announce it at The Game Awards or something would probably go pretty far. There are millions of people who stopped watching homestarrunner.com after the hiatus and haven't thought about it since. They may well think it's just totally dead and has been ever since then.
Putting a serious Homestar product in front of a mainstream audience would remind a lot of those people and cash in on the ever present nostalgia hype.

They're from close to Athens GA which is a city that punches way the fuck above its weight musically, and were at the right age when the music scene there was basically at its zenith so they probably rubbed a bunch of shoulders. REM is from there as probably the biggest example, there was a brief period in the early 90s where they were one of the 5 biggest bands in the world.

There's nothing to suggest ʎΙ₯sols is supposed to be a British act. They have typical American accents, and you can't infer they're not American just from the fact that "Whose Baby Is This" is UK exclusive, and "All-Tomorrow's Euro Restrooms DVD" exists. The UK exclusive might just be a hipster gimmick or a special promotion they did because of a strong following in the UK.
And for all we know, the ATER DVD is just a cleverly title for a compilation following a European tour.

I love that Post-Hiatus Homestar is just as effective at embedding turns of phrase as Pre-Hiatus Homestar was. That almost never happens.

I guess that's a result of not being pushed or pulled in any one direction and choosing to stay in the same "not meant for kids, but also not totally unsuitable for them" mindset that's not interested in using the end product as a platform for anything in particular beyond making people laugh. It's pure and timeless, and somehow it's stayed that way.

The guy who coined the term Homestar Runner was the original drummer for Of Montreal, while Robert Schneider (who produced In The Aeroplane Over the Sea) of Apples in Stereo is in a band with TBC.

They're also really close with Gerard Way of My Chemical Romance, knowing him before the band even formed.

On top of that, TBC worked on David Gordon Green's first two films and Mike did the cover art of the Criterion Collection cover of his debut film, George Washington

Piglike and Bald had made the first two episodes of Rainslick Precipice Of Darkness with the DeathSpank team, but they didn't have a developer for episodes 3 and 4, Telltale was one of their options, even though it didn't work out in the end and PA went with someone else, the end result was that Telltale put Tycho in Poker Night as a soft promotion for a product that never actually started development.

It was delisted in 2019 after Telltale blew up from getting too big for their britches after The Walking Dead and The Wolf Among Us made them a millionty billion dollary-doos and they took on more debt and more licensed projects than they could actually handle, as well as none of them ever selling as well as they promised. Another company bought the name and the rights to some of the games, then proceeded to fuck itself up, too.

>>719665345
The Sam and Max remake wasn't made by "Telltale" at all. It was made by Skunkape, a handful of the original Telltale developers who made the games in the first place, who had long since left Telltale because they knew where it was headed way before it actually went bad.

Honest to god, unusual effects weren't even the worst of it. The sheer number of ridiculous hats that are overly goofy costume swaps is insane. Not to mention the amount of low-effort items given out for events or cross-promotion. Then there's the devs downgrading graphical fidelity or little details just to make the game able to handle the sheer number of unique cosmetic items being used.

But what really nails my cock to the board is that there's NO OPTION TO DISABLE ALL THIS BULLSHIT. If you even suggest giving player any choice whatsoever you get dogpiled by every brainwashed dicksucker with no sense of style or artistic fidelity on the internet.

A lot of people probably only use it because it's one of the few websites online that you can use without handing over your dox, not that the staff here haven't tried.
RIP anyone dumb enough to pay for a 4chan Pass.
Like regularly it's a problem I hear that people are getting banned for acting like human beings or dumb shit like the AI fag admins finding out you can draw and banning you because they can't create.

ʎΙ₯sols draws influences from a lot of indie bands but I'd personally say The Strokes is the biggest source. At least aesthetically; their music is generally a bit slower and grungier than The Strokes are. Listening to B-est of B sides reminds me of some of Weezer's really early stuff.

It struck me as especially weird when Robot Chicken did a "skit" on H*R and it was, them gunning down the H*R cast because they were freeloaders or something?

INCREDIBLY weird for them to do a skit on Homestarrunner for so many reasons. First is it's obviously really fucking bad and nobody cared about it at all. 2, you're right it feels very spiteful but for no reason at all. 3, This was long long after it had any relevance.

Even their Team Fortress 2 collab skit wasn't as bad.

Aqua Teen Hunger Force mentality.
Episode 1 is about Homestar's Runnulix finally going Kaput, so he'll never be a Terrific Athlete again, unless he finds The Supreme Melonade to revitalize himself. Play it like that's going to be a big, overarching dramatic story taking the IP in a totally new direction. Play it perfectly straight, no jokes except the sheer absurdity of the terms and premise involved, then at the last minute, Homestar realizes the Runnulix isn't even a real organ and he just buys a 2 liter of Melonade from Bubs's stand with Monopoly money he took from Strong Sad's Indie film budget.
The rest of the season is fully disconnected ~4.5-11 minute cartoons like you'd see on the website with no significant continuity between them. Just with a budget behind them, so flashier things happen sometimes, and the characters have more unique facial expressions.

Yeah, early Robot Chicken tickled my fancy at the time, even with things I loved (I love Calvin and Hobbes and I still liked the RS skit on it), but doing H*R dirty like that was such a sour spot.
I'm not even the biggest fan of H*R, I admit, but it's one of those online series that I have immense respect for.

Live action. Marzipan is played by Anna Taylor Joy. Her only line in the trailer is "I'm the only girl!" Strong Bad is played by George Lopez. Homestar is played by Jeff Anderson coated in white paint with his arms tucked into his shirt. Also, Homestar is stuck with his duck shirt until the final episode, where he unlocks his classic star shirt by winning the quarterback long jump. Strong Mad is played by whiteface Dwayne Johnson, Strong Sad by Rivers Cuomo in a fat suit. The Cheat would just be a kick-the-cheat plush, but it talks in the Powered by the Cheat voice with Cheatspeak subtitles. Coach Z would definitely be played by that white rapper whose name I never remember except it reminds me of the post office. Post Mahone? Anyway the plot synopsis is that someone stole Stro Bro's style which is why he's played by George Lopez. After it's revealed that Bubs (Queen Latifah) sold his style to the Goblin (Craig Zobel mocapping a shitty Goblin model), Strong Bad takes his style back from the Goblin in a game of knife-eye, winning by illegally using a needle to avoid gouging his eye out. After drinking his style, he turns back into his normal form, Carlos Mencia wearing red face paint

getting a tv show spinoff is the death of art.
That said, 22 minutes of shorts each episode so it doesn't have to follow a formula. sometimes the shorts could follow a central theme for the last short being a big toon, but i know it would be a flop considered HSR works so well because it's such a freeform format.
