said experimental characteristics and boundary pushing aspects are lost as the genre is sanitised and re-packaged to be more palatable to (really hate to say this) normalfags. the gatekeeping is an effort to stop that from happening. look at goths, they welcomed people into their subculture with open arms and paid for it dearly. the idea that goth was originally a music subculture has been all but lost and it's now a label that has been hijacked by tik tok/onlyfans sluts wearing fishnets.

Also Pendulum may be the worst DJs I've ever seen in real life, though I can't speak for their band set if they have one (saw Infected Mushroom's band set years ago and they were dope). All I remember from seeing them literally almost 20 years ago was that they played Tarantula three times in a row. I don't even think it was remixed, they just played it literally three times back to back. I thought I was tripping out but my sober friend just looked at me and was like "what the fuck," I guess they thought Tarantula was such a banger that the predominately rolling crowd would just love that they played it... three times in a row.

The fuck.

When if you actually think about it for two seconds you realise the progenitors of the genre were all edgy teenagers in an edgy atheist phase.
It's like if people held Slipknot up as the ideal of metal because people aren't making metal that's just screaming about how much you hate life in middle America anymore

Entire genres came and went before the first prominent US producers even began popping up.
Even today producers and DJs talk about the disparity in what music they can play for a US crowd vs a European crowd. US crowds can not stomach anything north of 180BPM while EU crowds need their sets to start at 200

This one's a banger, for sure. Anything that came out of the Good Looking label is solid. It's such a unique song that's hard to describe. Liquid/Intelligent DnB is distinctively different from the Jungle it grew out of, and often gets mistaken with Dreamcast/Playstaion-era DnB tracks just because it's got bass hits and a(an Amen) break. I'd really like to take a stab at recreating the sound one day, even though I don't know the first thing about music production. I just know the sound I'm looking for.

I'm stuck at work so I can't load up 4chan on my desktop. I would and start giving you links.

All the Producer albums are classics. LTJ, Seba, Blu Mar Ten. I fell in love with DnB when I first heard "Butterflies and Moths" by B M T when it first came out.... Damn, almost 25 years ago now. Right when the reversed percussion kicks in is when I knew I found a banger.

Also check out LTJ's 90s mixtapes on YouTube. Lots of hidden gems from jungle/etc when it was starting to be its own thing.

Yes I'm posting an image while at work because I don't want to flag my works firewall.

Psytrance feels a lot like tech house. Its a jack of all trades, master of none, but its so accesible you can enjoy it with mostly everyone. It doesn't help that jews overplayed that genre in every single festival, to the point Goa no longer means India anymore.

By gatekeeping I mean internal gatekeeping like "this song doesn't have the exact bpm this genre demands therefore it's not part of it"

the last time there was half decent OST / soundtrack for a game was back when Racing games and "Xtreme" sports were a thing

so 2005-2014
aka SSX
aka need for speed (beginning of the franchise)
aka Burnout Paradise
etc etc

I really wanna drop my steam handle here but it will be forever archived and I dont wanna get marked

since this thread died
Ill revive it with some early 2000s trance
>You now remember Dopefish videos
