It'd be very hard for Silksong to be a chronological sequel without completely committing to a specific ending. Imagine Hornet doing random sidequests in Pharloom while the Lord of Shades consumes Hallownest in utter darkness. That's why I'm expecting it to be a chronological sequel.

I THINK that's why the Knight can draw soul so easily where the guys in the Soul Sanctum have to experiment and practice and train for however many decades; being empty, the soul is absorbed into the vessel readily.

Never really thought about this (the economy of Cornifer, not his massive wang). But Cornifer is *also* an adventurer right? He's just one that makes maps. So assuming adventuring in Hallownest is valuable (and it does seem to be: lot of loot and lost artifacts) the fact is he's the most successful one you see because he always comes back.
It's a bit weird because the game implies a few times that there is no world beyond Hallownest. But Cornifer doesn't make sense unless there is a greater world for him to have come from, and with that comes a greater economy. It seems like people come from all over to visit Hallownest and try to plunder it's riches to presumably go back somewhere else.

Hallownest seems to have a great draw for petty looters and scholars alike. So Cornifer seems to have a pretty good thing going. He does his own adventures, and then when he returns to whereever he came from he can probably keep selling his maps to would-be adventurers and scholars as a retirement option. If anything - assuming he goes back to actual major population centers and sells his maps - there will probably be a pretty huge increase in the number of people who come to pick over the ruins because having actual maps and knowledge of what to expect would be a big boon. Cornifer might start the equivalent of a gold rush (and then get a bunch of people killed for nothing because we already looted everything).

I was really excited when I first ended up there but it was merely okay. It's not that dangerous the first time and worse when you come back because everything that was supposed to be intimidating is now just annoying. The centipedes are louder than they are threatening. Nosk was cool but totally missable, so I was way too strong when I finally found him.

I wish hollow knight had staged levels instead of being a bloated metroidvania slop game. I'd ask for more instanced paths of pain and deepnest(s) instead of the boring mess this game was. I'm really glad that Hornet moves twice as fast in silksong, maybe navigating the world won't be as boring as it was spamming the dash in hollow knight. Even when equipping all movement speed charms it was atrociously slow to navigate. I could never find the strength to replay it from the beginning. I never faced this problem in super metroid, zero mission, Rabi-Ribi, Rusted Moss and most metroidvanias I have finished.

The moment that really got me was getting to the rainy underground city and taking a seat in the building with the balcony (i think thats what it looked like). Its been years and the game was okay until that point, but once i got there i realized just how well done the atmosphere was, and going back to other areas made me appreciate the work they put into every aspect of the game. background art, animation, sound design - its all really, really well done, and thats not even taking into account how small the team was. i dont think its the best game ever like a lot of people claim, but goddamn is it solid, which is a rarity these days

There's a few schools of thought on whether the player knight is hollow and how hollowness even works.

The Hollow Knight was supposed to be an emotionless automaton yet all it took to give the Radiance a foothold was just the slightest hint of familial attachment. The vessels seem to have a will, a mind, curiosity, impressions of the world around them. An empty vessel would gain nothing from saving Bretta, or repeatedly challenging Zote, or chilling with Quirrel, or competing in the Colosseum of fools, or sitting with Marissa as she sings. The knight does all those things, and experienced a lot more than the Hollow one did.

Unless you play your knight like a mindless terminator who only cares about killing the dreamers, supplanting the sealed vessel, and killing/removing any obstacle in the path. Don't give a shit about anything else in the game. That kind of knight could very likely be an entirely emotionless automaton. But it's never clear whether any of the vessels are actually hollow, or if it's just a lot of wishful thinking and hasty assumptions by higher beings who overestimated their own intellect.

And of course if the player knight is empty, then why does the game need any endings other than the very first one?

Carrying the void heart does not mean he is empty and thoughtless. This notion that void = empty nothingness was something the Pale King tried very hard to believe and it ultimately ended up being a gross miscalculation that not only resulted in the failure of the Hollow Knight but also resulted in the Pale King's own death - he underestimated the Void and its intentions. When you find the dead Kingsmould and the White Palace, it's clearly implied the Void itself reached up and killed the King. (the guard's body is smothered in void tendrils, there's void particles floating around the King's corpse). Hell in the Dream No More and Godmaster endings you can tell that the Void definitely has a will and a certain malevolence to it, it's not just a giant big ocean of emptiness.
