It's painful how many amazing ideas in DS2 were scrapped just because they're from DS2. Yeah we got a dumbed-down version of power stancing in Elden Ring but where are the new enemy spawns on NG+, the weapon and shield catalysts, the armor with significant passive effects that noticeably change your build, the casting speed bonuses from stats other than dex, the bonfire aesthetics, the no death/no bonfire challenge runs, the hard mode covenant, the unparryable ultra weapon heavies, the single-player invasions, the estus block during invasions, the unique glow you'd get for winning tons of area PvP fights
There was so many amazing mechanics in DS2 that never really returned in any of the other games and people only ever focus on the few experimental bits that didn't work

2 was jankier, it had higher highs and lower lows, but 3's core systems made its PvP much worse and difficulty much lower
Almost every weapon in 3 being tied to two hit combos in PvP, rolls and estus being way too fast, and having essentially endless stamina made 3 by far the easiest game in the entire series but also gave it by far the least satisfying PvP
3 is basically if Bloodborne had blocking and heavy armor, but also all the enemies were way slower
There were parts of 3 that worked. I loved the purple phantoms, the callbacks to 1 were neat, it had some nice visuals
But the core gameplay of 3 just doesn't hold up, especially when Elden Ring does everything 3 set out to do better

If I want SOVL I play 1
If I want good PvP I play 2
If I want fast, reactive combat I play Elden Ring or Bloodborne

There's no reason to replay 3

I took a week off work at launch to no-life DS3. My strongest memory of that game is that I would constantly lose when I would try to play cautiously like a souls game and then get frustruated and mash R1 on the boss the next time around and melt it in 30 seconds. So yeah that game's combat system is a complete failure that felt like it had zero thought put into it.

Remember how most enemies in base game is vulnerable to magic and blunt weapons. If you were using slash/stab, have fun with 90% of bosses and hard enemies being resistant against you but hey, you get to deal damage on like 2 easy bosses and the unarmored trash mobs

Iโ€™ll be honest it was Sekiro. People hyped it up a lot before release, but when I actually played it, I realize there was so much back tracking. Thereโ€™s only like 3 major area in the game, and the major one gets reused a few times. Plus, mini-bosses are more like puzzles where the right tool makes the entire thing trivial. Not to mention thereโ€™s no real incentive to replay the game unless you want a different ending, and since the game is tied to how good you are, once youโ€™ve figured it out, doing another run is just doing the same thing but easier since you have prior knowledge and is stronger mechanically now. At least DS2 has some replay ability factor. Sekiro is genuinely a one and done game, and for that, itโ€™s the weakest in the modern Souls series from the company.

3 started the trend of making the best weapons play like anime bullshit. 2 continues the trend of the game being mostly strategy based with proper defense and timing mattering most. In 3 and continuing into Elden Ring, it feels like a weapons weapon arts is used more than the basic move set, and the best weapons always have some flippy anime bullshit moveset as well.

Dark Souls 3 is literally Bloodborne but worse. It was a contractual obligation to Bamco. Bloodborne is one of Miyazaki's best works. This enrages DS3 zoomers that had to wait 10 years to emulate Bloodborne. Miyazaki himself knows which of his games are best. Pic related.

How so? I had much more fun playing dark souls 2 and still replay it many times. Dark Souls 3 i finished once and never came back, why? Mostly because of the shitty artstyle. It felt too much like bloodborne but everything had that grey filter. The story and bosses design were also very repetitive. Just a bunch of corrupted blobs. And my biggest problem was actually completely retarded quests. I remember i wanted to progress in on quest line, checked online guide and learned i fcked it up in first 2 hours of the game or so and that you ahd to do very specific tasks pretty much impossible to figure out on your own to complete most NPC storylines.
I remember it was an issue in first dark souls as well but what i love about 2 is that i completeled every quest without having to look up an online guide. I also love how different each area feels and how majula gets populated by NPCs as the last bastion of hope in the world, while in 1 and 3 hub areas become desolate again in the end. It's just a better expierence for me but i understand why some may like 3 better. For me it was huge dissapointment.

I'm not that anon, but for me it was entirely game feel. I rolled once in Dark Souls 3 and immediately just "got" it. It felt good to control so I ended up replaying it like 18 times. Player movement, to me, felt really good in 3. I have no love for 2 just because I can't enjoy the way it plays, but I'll admit it was weird as fuck and has a lot of memorable areas like Shrine of Amana pre-patch.
Anonymous No.719679903
2 was only worth playing when it released because it was the new Souls game and by the time it released, DaS1 ran its course and DeS online was practically nonexistent. 3 is fairly bland and I never liked the "hey, remember this???" thing they were doing. It was also a huge step down from Bloodborne. You could tell 3 was only made from a standpoint of "people love these games, keep churning them out" instead of doing what eas originally trying to be done with DeS by taking Kings Field and making it third person and then DaS1 expanding on that. 2 certainly had ideas and good viability for builds but ultimately leans too heavy into the "prepare to die" shit and the game just feels like shit to play

Dark Souls 2 may have been sloppy, but it was soulful and tried to innovate. DS3 is just "memba that" derivative bullshit.

I used a shield on my first playthrough of 3 and it worked pretty well. You also get options of shields with elemental advantages for fire resistance and thunder resistance. If you want to block, say, Nameless King for example, the Spirit Tree Crest shield is really good and super effective there. The greatshields are mostly all great too.

So nobody said it then.
You have an argument to prove bud.

Nothing. It's where the rot began. Shields emgender passivity? Didn't know you didn't want me to play your game, Miyazaki. OK, you keep talking like that and your not getting my money.
Maybe I like engendering passivity, crawling through levels with my shield up one step at a time. That is part of Souls appeal to me, and Bloodbore set the stage for its murder.

DS2 was fucked up by development hell whereas 3 was designed from the ground up with intentions to be mid.

By nearly all metrics DS2 is the worse game, but there is something in its jank that I find immensely charming. DS3 just feels really lifeless in comparison to any other game in the series despite its technical prowess.

You do realize that bloodborne came out before DS3, right sis?

Long time souls vets know the DS3 is the worst souls game made, DS2 was a masterpiece and had great reception on launch, and to this day still has the best PvP. DS3 is dumbed down shit for zoomers.

I know. Bloodborne is still where the rot began.

It's hardly worth criticising. It's a solid game, but it's uninteresting.

2 had more soul but 3 had better gameplay, so I guess 3.

You're kidding, right? DS2 was a joke for when it released and I remember bitching to my brother about the franchise going downhill and him telling me to shut up and find something else to spend my time on.
