Frankly, it was the incredibly slow pace that he has in playing retro games for his podcast.
The goal was an episode a week, and it's been 27 weeks, and he started on 1985, with the goal from the start being a year for each episode.
You'd think he'd be on 2012 by now, right? No. He skipped out on playing them for a bunch of episodes, and had to extend some into two-parters because he could only bare himself to play 1 game for certain episodes. He's on fucking 1992 - 20 years behind - what an embarrassment!
Honestly, it really shouldn't take that much time. The whole purpose isn't even a formal review, just a quick half-an-hour-long check for each game to see if its worth recommending to his retarded viewers. It was a win/win situation for the developers, the arcade joints, and the strategy guide book sellers. Negative videos and subjects get more views, likes and comments. Discovery algorithms are all about engagement nowadays, hence the proliferation of ragebaits. Any person that does YT for a living will at some point have to do what gets them the most views simply because one badly performing video can impact your future content. The only way to sort of be free of this and make what you want is to have a strong fanbase that you monetize in other ways such as patreon, paid subscriptions etc.
Sponsors aren't a definitive solution because your check will depend on your subs but also your average views + other metrics like how many people will use your promo code.

it's a near 1 to 1 remake of mgs 3 subsistence on the ps2. it's one of the best games ever made, but the price is ridiculous. it's also fairly short, but you're intended to play it multiple times, as all your unlockable carry over when you beat the game. your first playthrough will be like 12-ish hours, but subsequent runs will be less than half the time as you skip every cutscene, conversation, and just blast.
