Diablo 2 patched is a trap -- not saying dont have fun, enjoy tho have fun, im just saying, it really is a trap. the original patches was so much more fun IMHO(but not perfect)

do what u want; there's a free respec in the game with later patches, but not in the early ones if u're worried about messing up ur build

The core of Diablo 2 is completely busted, it was designed by people who genuinely had no idea how video games worked, even as I child I recognized how utterly fucked up and broken it was functionally. They did a big patch years later that still didn't fix its core issues. In all seriousness if you want to paly Diablo 2 you should play some mods of it. Original D2 is full of stuff that just isn't viable

The problem with diablo style loot is everything under gold or purple is just junk.

I fucking hate this place, never talk about a game you are actively playing online, people will come out of the woodwork to scream YOUR NOT ACTUALLY HAVING FUN, DO IT MY WAY to your face. Just do a blind run of the game and figure out later if you even want to replay it and with what modifications if any.
