Most of the games I got into when I first got a PC were already out for quite a while. I wish I had gotten into them sooner, but I was stuck on an Xbox 360. Games like Team Fortress 2, GMOD, etc.

FOMO is joked about and a lot of the time it really isn't worth it, but it genuinely is something else to be invested in a game from its beginning and it actually turning into something beloved, even if that game gets raped and ends up being shit (like TF2).

Melty Blood Actress Again. I very vividly remember the first day I played it. Me and some others bought it for cheap to get hyped for Lumina. We all liked Under Night to an extent so I believe that was the reason for us to try it out.
I picked Tohno because I'm a shotofag, and the second I landed his teleport command grab, I said out loud "OH MY GOD THAT'S FUCKING SICK"
To this day it's now one of my favorite fighters.

I've heard various complaints over the years, yeah. Got a pretty high tolerance for design decisions so long as I'm getting to experience more of a setting. Personally anyway. Recommending it to others later is another matter.

Everyone and their damn mother kept shilling me on this for most of my life but was too lazy to actually check it out. Only did recently with that remake and it turns out they were 100% right. I have two. First is Lost Odyssey. I emulated it on xenia recently, which I don't think would have worked til maybe a year or two ago anyway, but it was fuckin great. Totally ahead of its time in the writing department. I can see why it flopped because it has kinda hard bosses for a JRPG and it's got more serious adult emotional stuff (not in edgy or sexual way) rather than the usual melodrama.

Second is Helldivers. I got it on PC a couple weeks ago after seeing some hype for the xbox launch. I'm not a fan of "live service" games, so I wrote it off forever ago, but after playing it on a whim, I love it. I like the fake/rigged story bullshit a little, but I'm really just liking killing aliens and robots. I haven't had a shooter I got into this much since Halo Reach.

Skies of Arcadia. It's so energetic and full of wonder. Vyse is a great role model for a kid. It would have become one of my favorite games. Playing it for the first time as a jaded, depressive adult just made me wish hope and excitement weren't foreign concepts to me now.

Excellent game though.

For me it's slightly complicated but it's Genshin Impact. I started playing it on release but anyone else who did will remember it was pretty barren and I got bored super quick, and with not having any characters I really enjoyed playing I ended up dropping it within 3 days.

I love BotW's gameplay loop of mindlessly meandering about doing shitty puzzles for small bobbles, but with all of the good exploration utilities locked behind gacha I really didn't enjoy it.

Then in 2023 a friend who had a bunch of re-roll accounts gave me one with Ganyu and Mona and I tried it again, got a bit deeper, had a good time, but still didn't enjoy it. Picked up 2 more 5* characters (Childe, Nahida) but that early in the game they weren't needle movers for my still quite barren teams.

It wasn't until I tried it again last summer when Navia was on banner, and rolled her, and instantly fell in love with playing as her that the game finally hooked me and I started sinking dozens then hundreds of hours into it.

So I regret not sticking with it for all that I missed out on all the daily shit and now feeling rushed in a game with a fomo model, but I also regret coming back to it because now I've sunk more than a few hundred dollars into the game and am on the fucking hamster wheel.

I've tried at least three times, just couldn't get into it. I should just accept that Japanese RPGs are not for me. Ys, FF, DQ, KH, Skies of Arcadia, Dark Cloud, Breath of Fire, Secret of Mana, Chrono Trigger, bunch more that I can't remember off the top of my head -- nothing grabbed me. Fell asleep while watching the intro to the Kingdom Hearts. Birth by Sleep, ironically enough.

I wish I could wrap my head around what people find so enrapturing about Diablo 2.
I even played it as a child too, and it was alright. Replayed it nowadays and I still can't understand what made people go crazy about it.
I can understand the logic of brrrrr numbers go up, but not what specifically makes D2 any better at it than any other brrrr numbers go up simulator.
