Is the Kingdom Hearts series worth playing, at least the 3 main games? I love action games like Ninja Gaiden, Devil May Cry, Bayonetta, Viewtiful Joe, Wonderful 101, etc. Haven’t played many Final Fantasy games, favorite one is Strangers of Paradise, which probably doesn’t count as a true Final Fantasy game.

It's not an action games like those if you were wondering about the gameplay. It's like an in between of turn based and basic run around, jump and hit with occasional flashy qte like sections with the bosses.

I want to say "good, all KH fags deserve to get bullied". But thinking about it a bit more I've come to the conclusion that the reason KH got so popular back then is because kids got bullied so much they escaped in to this garbage fantasy world of Disney and zippers.

Your friends were lame then. I played KH2 in high school and my friends all thought it was funny to see the Atlantica musical world because they knew that I also thought it was dumb. I skipped that world after the second song, realizing that was all it would be, but came back after realizing that I HAD to do it for the materials to forge the ultima weapon. Everyone I knew with a PS2 loved KH and KH2; I was the only one to play the later games because I was an idort and actually could.

The first game was shilled on Disney Channel nonstop. I remember seeing the ads with Simple and Clean and everyone thought it looked badass. KH2 carried a lot of hype from the first game being a huge success. It was a different time, and it's no more cringey than anything kids are into now or were before then. It hit just right at the time to channel that early emo energy for tweens.

They're a bit on the slower side but they're super flashy and hitting things with the keyblade feels excellent. I think the RPG elements are integrated nicely, too.

KH is for sure. KH2 is a great action game but is where the story starts to get wacky as fuck. KH3 will make no sense unless you either play most of the side content (Chain of Memories, Birth By Sleep, and Dream Drop Distance at the absolute minimum) or watch a video or something to get you up to speed. I think the Final Mix stuff or something has a "story thus far" thing for 3 built into it.

Play 1, play 2 if you liked it and want a generally improved combat game with a slightly more convoluted story, and 3 if you still want more with good payoff. BBS is also worth it, and one of the best side games that also plays similarly to the mainline.

I was never a bully, but I did let kids know as politely as I could that I think Kingdom Hearts is super gay and cringe.
For those who asked, I'd even explain why, and always start with how horrible of an idea it is to try taking the tryhard edgy final fantasy style storytelling and combining it with light hearted whimsical dusney-esque children's fantasies.
It can all be boiled down to "what if Mario but the mushrooms made him high lel"
