What are some games with ammo autism?
Fallout New Vegas is cool. I was hoping Underrail would have interesting reloading mechanics but there's zero reason to make your own bullets when you can just buy more for a fraction of the time and effort spent gathering all the components.

As much as I like magazine based reloading systems, they always go for stupid realism and almost never take it to the next level.

>>719692779 I like Insurgency for it's simple implementation of "Tap Reload Once" retention reload that keeps the magazine and "Double Tap Reload" for a faster reload that ditches the magazine. But I forget, can you go back and grab a ditched magazine if you're really scrounging for ammo or is that stupid realism that doesn't let you do that?

There was also a rather crappy old game that had it been released later would have been a half-fulfilled promise Kickstarted permanent early access game, but it predated that model. Interstellar Marines. I believe that had a magazine based reloading model, but I think it also had a feature that not enough games have, the ability to consolidate your half spent magazines so you could turn two half magazines into one full magazine.

I don't think /v/ has a very good opinion of this modpack (personally I like it) but GAMMA for anomaly when you enable the optional MAGS mod in the manager adds ammo autism. Your current equipped armor and backpack decides how many mags you can use to slot in for quick R key reloading. If you run out you have to open up your backpack inventory (forces you into a bag opening animation) and slot in your mags again or just drag your mag into the gun.
Like tarkov you have to drag your bullet stacks into the magazine and let your character load them in for a little bit, if you try to move while doing this then it slows down by a lot. You can find better fast loading mags around the world that help with this. You can mix and match AP FMJ HP in the same mag and you'll probably end up doing this during hobo phase because AP is expensive without the ability to craft it.
And by all means, you can probably just go ahead and use the mags mod without gamma, it's just that the other systems kinda mix well with this for hyper autism.

The crafting system in general is retarded as fuck with implementation like this. Why it would take some hardened stalker to crush a handful of blood clotting pills into a vodka soaked bedsheet to make one (1) sterile bandage is beyond me. By rights you should be able to make a scaling list of bandages based on their antiseptic proprieties ranging from boiled cheese cloth, vodka soaked or even potentially homeopathic remedies based on the Zone's flora and fauna. FNV managed to strike the right balance between making some semblance of logic without going full autism on the whole ordeal.

Re/unloading mags is a core feature but because of how the game's balanced you can pretty much choose to ignore it, which I'd say is a good thing
Either you can pick up weapons and mags off your enemies and treat it all as disposable or take the time to manually unload and reload them for less common and usually stronger weaponry

The problem with a "cycling" magazine systems is the lack of feedback for when you're about to reload an old partial mag. IRL you know which pouch you physically put a partial mag in, but in a vidya it just pops out of the ether.
>lol just count the mags in your head
Boring and tedious. Not to mention you'd also need to have an additional system for consolidating half-filled mags, increasing the inventory microing of the game. And after all that players would complain that they want to pick up dropped mags from the ground, again slowing down the game and increasing tedious busywork. If any dev does all that then more power to them, but there's a reason why it's not more popular. Ammo loss on reload is perfectly enough for me.
