I didn't pirate it because I already played BOTW.

BOTW and its DLC have a pretty cool approach to cheap ambient lighting where they basically attach a real-time reflection probe to the character which only captures direct lighting. they blur the result and apply it as the ambient lighting on all objects, not just the character.
from this you get very bright shadows and where it all goes wrong is, they don't have any kind of exposure adaptation or even just a fixed colorgrade to get back some contrast. I don't know why. modders have EASILY fixed the issue using only tools already provided by the game, so both games could have had proper contrast out of the box for zero performance cost. colorgrading is already in the game! it's just not used right.
basically Nintendo's artists are contrarian and decided they wanted the whole look of the game to take place in the upper half of the value spectrum, no darkness anywhere.
