This is like a videogame in a TV show written by boomers concept of a videogame.

Somehow it's actually fun because of how simple and straightforward it is.

It's not a 5/10 bore or 7/10 "mid" game. It legitimately has a unique feel by how aggressively "videogamey" it feels in a way no other game pulls off, except in those weird tv shows and movie "video games"

Fantasy was and remained fine, the problem was a glut of properties like this where some dumb idea guy said "I want to make fantasy thing!" and his whole fantasy setting could be described in a sentence, with some made up europeanish sounding kingdom names, some made up elvish sounding names, some made up orcish sounding names and maybe if you're lucky some exotic asian sounding names. And a cosmology that was developed in the space of one brainstorming conversation with the objective of providing an excuse for magic and creating some world ending threat for you to fight. So, so much phoned in fantasy that nobody could bring themselves to care about, when all you really need to do is hire some coked out writer to vomit up an insane setting bible with a cosmology and history, and then you just pick through what he wrote and take out just the parts you want for your game.

No. Idiots need to stop spreading this nonsense. Whatever flaws Amalur had it's a fully finished fleshed out game. Avowed was a game that started as one thing, got rebooted, and hurried out the door. The reboot caused the remaining old guard of Obsidian to jump ship entirely. The remaining people didn't even like the Pillars setting and were vocal on social media about how much they disliked the studios past projects and how dumb they think the pillars setting is. It's a game no one working on it wanted to make. The thing you can actually give Amalur is there were people behind it that actually wanted to make the thing.

Stop buying games made by people that hate you.

Fall of Avalon and Elex are great games made by smaller teams that actually wanted to make what they were working on. Divinity II is a great game made by a team that had to claw its way up from being broke and reduced to just three people left barely hanging on but they kept at it because they loved what they were doing.

Stop buying games made by people that hate you.

Always do. It is a very good game with a very good atmosphere and world.
Jusr either play original with original addons or remaster without the new addon. Remaster itself mostly fixes bugs such as memory leaks and slightly removes the blur (which is not a good thing as the game is supposed to have a dreamlike atmosphere, which is achieved through many effects blur included, but, fortunately, not a lot of it is removed).
However. Remaster had been made not by original developers, but by deutshlanders without souls. Hence their new addon is bland, boring, have modern language everywhere and also shits on the original plot for whichever reasons. Ignore that new addon. It is just a bad fanfiction, that has nothing to do with the original game. New mechanics are also bad.

RPGs have been loot and grind focused for decades. Without scaling. And better without scaling. One of the major pillars of an RPG is character progression. Scaling monsters makes character progression irrelevant.

RPGs are the DBZ of genres. It's all about building yourself up to overcome something. It's not about skill. It's about improving your character and/or playing a role.

You were in Detyre, and you were not near the end. You still needed to get through a swamp full of so many corpses it was bridging the worlds of the living and the dead, and then sneak through Alabastra to kill Gadflow.

The game does hold up for what it is. If you do decide to go back I strongly encourage you to only do main and faction quests and never touch the side ones unless something an NPC talks about really piques your interest.

Kingdom of Amalur is a weird game
it has a cool, interesting, beautiful fantasy world but it feels empty and barren, even the NPC's don't make it feel alive
the quests are MMO tier
the combat is fun but lacks depth and variety
the music is great
if the game had a co-op mode, it'd be something I could wholeheartedly recommend, but as it stands, it gets very boring towards the end of the game

I liked it. The problem is that it was made for a very small subset of autistic people that actually like MMOs for the generic questing and acquisition of meaningless gear, slow exp gain etc.
MMOs were doing well enough at the time that they thought people play MMOs for the gameplay when people actually skip 99% of it and are just looking for fake prestige and small amounts of psuedo-socialization, none of which exists in a single player game.
If you're not playing it just for the sake of creating a character, gearing them up and reaching an arbitrary 'end of build' you'll get nothing out of it.
