Why can't more AAA games have reasonable file size?
This is not rocket science
Is this just laziness?

To force you to do one of two things:
1. Uninstall other games to make room, thus eliminating competition for your attention
2. Force you to buy bigger/sub drives to store your games, funding the hardware industry.
It's all for profit.

Sekrio
>14gb
>well optimized, runs on a laptops
>clean visuals

Wo Long
>60 GB
>horribly unoptimised, runs like absolute shit
>worse visuals, messy rendering

Wukong, Wuchang and other Ching chong clones
>130 GB
>can't even run acceptably on a RTX 50 Series
>dogshit visuals, looks like grainy, blurry aids
Anonymous No.719705464

But what if I don't think it's worth it to sacrifice 4 other games for their 1 game?
Fuck their game. I'm not buying it. Not playing it. I'm not putting that on my drive.

Sekiro can only afford to be so small because the game has no content or replayability. AAA games have to have large file sizes because of the superior graphics, tonnes of content and replayability. It's not brain science surgery to figure that out.

Texture resolution, lighting and fast load times all have the trade off of taking up more room on your hard drive. It's 2025, have you tried not being poor?
Anonymous No.719705773
Anything bigger than 50-70GB at best is simply not worth playing.

Sekiros world and asset pool is huge. what are you talking about?
take FF7R for example the world consists of small rooms and some of the lowest quality assets recycled all over the place. yet it's 100GB.
what's the 100GB spent on? pre-rendered mp4s and gigabytes of unnecessary, poorly acted NPC dialogue that literally makes the game worse.

>Texture resolution
well optimized textures don't take up that much even when they're large.
>lighting
lighting is literally just coordinates and text in a shader. it takes up no space at all.
>fast load times
nothing to do with game file size.

Yes, it's indeed not rocket science. The more content and assets you have, the bigger the filesize will be. Fromsoft famously recycles assets and rollslop doesn't even have lots of optional dialogue files to bloat the filesize. You can package files, reduce their quality etc. but all of these have drawbacks. The greatest sin is leaving unused assets from the developement, but that's less common.

I remember when I bought Sekiro and installed, and I saw that the game was barely 14gb
I was like "no, no that can't be right"
Then I launched the game, cranked everything to ultra, 4k resolution, and the game never goes below 60fps, my GPU fans are completely quiet
Fromsoft has a habit of being retarded when it comes to PC ports, but in the case of Sekiro, they knocked it out of the park
Elden Ring had stutter problems on PC at launch, but it also impressed me how the game was only 44gb with its huge seamless open world with loads of assets
With the DLC it's now 67gb, but still impressive considering the amount of shit in the game

This is besides the point
I just can't help but feel pissed off whenever I see your run of the mill AAA slop being 100gb+, especially when the game is poorly optimized when you play it

tl;dr answer:
Unreal 5 + zoom zoom pajeet devs merely dragging & dropping cinema quality assets in without any sort of handcrafting or optimization.

Sub-15 GB ain't even that hard to achieve, and many indie 3D titles you could fit on a DVD or two.

yeah gotta love those low quality bosses dumped carelessly into generic terrain that is not an acceptable or memerable battle arena.
the only thing that's memorable is watching the subfuntional AI glitch out and fail on the terrain as you break the game with cheap hit and run tactics on a horse or even just spam projectiles.

Its the same type of person as those complaining Sekiro is just press one button to win. They have no valid criticism of the games and just go with weird hyperbolas to make a point. If ER world was populated with NPCs at every corner they would be crying its bad cause there is too much unnecessary copy pasted stuff.

I remember an old interview with a developer (I think the DD:DA devs) where they said based on player feedback that some people actually like it when the framerate tanks. To some players, it simply coincides with casting a big powerful ability that makes the screen shake and the FPS go down. Extrapolating off that, I worry if we will have gamers in the future who think that if a game doesn't have a 300gb+ install footprint, that they simply aren't getting their money's worth on the game.

Over 20 of those are for 15 minutes of poorly encoded Bink videos, including 1.2GB for the fucking title screen.
For comparison, that's about two gigs more as a complete version of Serious Sam Fusion (TFEHD,TSEHD,3 and the VR versions), Serious Sam 2 AND Talos Principle 1 Gold COMBINED; INCLUDING a buttload of mods.
