Everyone blames DK64 for killing collectathons but really that game sold a ton and was beloved at the time. It was Banjo-Tooie that killed the genre dead by being a mean-spirited schizophrenic game with like 5 different versions of every single collectible to do basic moves.

Come to think of it, did Banjo and Kazooie know they would be able to revive him? There wasn't anything to suggest Grunty's plan involved a machine that could reverse it. The machine wasn't even responsible for his death; Grunty literally bombed their house and he was simply caught in it. She killed him. There was no life force suction involved. He was just dead.

For the shitpost game that conker was, the fact they decided to not hold back on the adult humor made it leak too much into their late N64 games, both perfect dark and tooie were full of "child friendly" adult jokes that kazooie/DK had avoided doing too many of.

I genuinley dont undersand that or that world too big thing. Back then exploring big 3d worlds was awesome because it was new. Obviously now you can nitpick it but theres a missing componenet to how wonderous these games were because they were cutting edge 3d at the time.

I should replay this one time and see how my memory holds up. I played it over two days, one of the times I stayed home from school because of the flu. And I remember it being very fun, with a surprising amount and variety of content.

I like the big worlds and back tracking to open up new parts of worlds. It seems like kids these days find everything you cant just breeze by in one run or "speedrun" to be tedious.

which basic moves are these required for? the eggs are basically each their own move and you only NEED a specific egg a handful of times. you don't use up 5 grenade eggs to do a beak barge. And if you need one of these particular types of egg you stand in front of an egg nest and wait up to 5 seconds for it to cycle to the egg you need, you don't have to go looking for a specific one.

you failed the part where you were meant to elborate clearly because look at all this guesswork i had to do.

Tooie is braindead easy too anon, the only thi ng that can give you even remotely a hard time are the first two FPS mazes and MAYBE Grunty's fight especially if you're playing the Xbox 360 version due to a fuckup with the aiming controls, everything else can be cleared in the first or second try.

Not really. You might think it's okay, but it's mostly backtracking and worse level design than kazooie. levels felt empty and repetitive.

Were the collectibles even that bad in tooie?

Notes were toned down massivley, turning them into nests, and placing them in common areas where you'd never miss them.
Jinjo mechanics were changed that unless you were 100%ing the game it's easier to collect them casually instead of making zero progress unless you collect all of them in a level
Those pink bouncy creatures were always right next to mumbo or humba
there were tons of types of ammo, but they cycled
Other consumable collectibles like feathers and shit were barely ever used

The game's problem was level design, not collectibles

I was legit pissed off to see how fucking nerfed the wonderwing was in Tooie, not only it worked on SOME enemies, most of the fight happen with you transformed or unable to even bring it up again so it felt completely pointless outside of avoiding fall damage in Cloud Cuckooland
Anonymous No.719718028
>>719711396
Yeah it was M so it'd be fine to have that kind of adult humor in it but they wanted the goldeneye audience so didn't make it mature toned.
I'm also pretty sure there was jokes about anal probing and an implication something giving sexual relief in a very round-about way. It's been a while since I played it.

Yeah, it's nice to see a rare game actually maintain continuity and let your character retain abilities from the prequel, but it rarely ever works out well.

I got mad when the beak buster (ground pound move) was nearly useless because they required you to use the bill drill for FUCKING EVERYTHING

In Banjo Kazooie beak buster would smash grates and stones and shit, but in tooie you had to constantly watch that drilling animation because they had to force you to use new moves

Your dopamine fried ADHD brain not being able to handle sustained attention might be the problem and not the actual game or your adulthood. Main problem as an adult is just having the executive function to say "these are the 5 or so games I'm actively working to beat at the moment" and sticking to it.

Tooie is a drop in the bucket compared to an RPG, it's not actually long in any capacity

It's the millennials. The soilennials loved Kazooie's whimsical tone but hate all things gritty or could be perceived as "edgy". Meanwhile the zoomers welcome it because they think the first one looks too "childish" so it's basically older secondaries just getting into Tooie.
