why did VR lose?

>too expensive to get into
>those that crossed the price barrier were met with very lack luster software and games
>the best stuff was indie games, AAA support was absolute scam tier garbage
>headsets are uncomfortable on head and eyes
>half life alyx was the pinnacle of VR experiences nothing comes close even since then

VR is only good for porn and maybe racing games, that's the simple reality of it. It's about time you accept it.

>porn
it's not even good for that, I think I had a few gooning session and faps in vam before I just back the regular porn. Turns out having a screen strapped to your face make the whole thing kinda awkward

I play VR a lot but I could never understand how the fuck to use VAM. I guess I'm too fucking retarded. and when i saw people were charging for modules or scripts and shit I didn't bother after that

It's cheaper than a current gen console. I hate poor people so fucking much it's unbelievable.

Consoles have actual games, VR has lackluster experiences. You also need a strong PC if you want to play anything that has better graphics than minecraft

Too add to this:

>requires a beefy PC that most people don't have (look at the Steam PC specs, or the comments from EA about how dogshit people's specs were in the BF6 beta)
>requires a minimum of a 6ft/6ft area next to your PC, assuming a cabled VR setup
>many VR headsets require 'light houses', which adds to space and cable issues
>inherent motion sickness issues still prevalent and there's no good way to address it
>headsets cost as much as entire consoles
>VR game quality is dubious, and the only people making serious AAA VR is Valve because money doesn't matter and the game doesn't need to make money

It's a shame, because Subnautica in VR is some of the most fun I've had in vidya

Because Facebook decided to bet it all on their Metaverse shit and lost. That's it, that's like 90% of why VR slumped over and died.
Giant-ass company that owns like 2/3rds of all of VR banks billions on the metaverse and got so shitter-shattered that the entire market was like "what the shit just happened??? ABORT ABORT ABORT" while Facebook then rolled back or canceled all their projects.

Two things have come up so far that could've possibly saved VR: Apple's AVP and Valve's Index 2.
Apple releasing that shitheap of a headset and doing the "Apple thing" by making it super proprietary didn't help, which I find really funny because Apple needs to eat shit more often and it was 100% their fault. They could've saved themselves by adding(/selling) controllers and allowing the AVP access to the normal VR library, but nope, Apple's gonna Apple.

>requires a beefy PC
Standalones were the next big thing, the thing all the VR companies wanted to hop onto, and the Quest 2 was a huge hit, but Facebook eating it over the metaverse shit scared everyone off.
Even China was starting to put out some decent standalones and even THEY ran off when FB got wrecked instead of capitalizing on the void in the market.

Standalone VR sets can only run mobile-type games, because the processing is done in the headset. And the battery life isn't good. WiFi ones exist, but then you have the other problems I mentioned, potentially minus the light house one (which you swap for battery life).

I have a Rift S (because I liked the inside-out tracking), but I need to fix the 'Oculus Killer' thing to get around needing a Meta account for it, since Meta's shit runs crazy amounts of 'always on, even outside of VR' spyware bullshit.

Having a 17k peak in 2019 on such a limited platform as VR seems pretty good to me.

Mobile-type games are fine, so long as they get normalfags' feet in the door.
Catering to Hardcore Gamers is nice and all, but there's limits. (Also honestly the battery life is fine, most people can't play VR long-term and those that do will use an external battery or a battery strap anyway.)
You get normalfags in buying all kinds of shit and that gets money flowing, which can entice more companies to get involved and that gets more games developed. The Quest 2 even did that, even with the shit specs.
When the Q2 came out, the VR market exploded 1000x as normalfags ate up shovelware (plus stuff like Beat Saber and B&S, of course), and you then saw all kinds of indie devs and AA devs hopping in to make their own games as the Q2 caused a bunch of other headsets to pop out from nowhere and compete, trying to earn a piece of that pie.

It'll never catch on until its made way cheaper, more compact, and has actual games. That or whenever full dive becomes possible. As of now it's the same shit as AI. It has the name of the thing people are interested in, but its far from the real thing.

The games are all tech demo which are just a continuation of 7th and 8th gen motion controls.

People hated motion controls then, still hate them now. Don't care what you rebrand it as.
Anonymous No.719727094
For me it's just a technology gap at the moment. What I want out of VR is immersing myself in a world, and at the moment that requires a lot of tech either strapped to your face or in your desktop, and then for a developer to make that sort of game that will not have many players because of said tech demands. I just want to skip this intermediary period and get straight to .hack full dive RPGs, even though if that happens we're probably like 30-50 years away.

All the platforms with the IPs did nothing and those startups that did, had the blandest most generic of art.

heavily depends on what headset your using and when you watched vr porn, almost anything before 2021 is abysmal dogshit in terms of resolution camera placement and immersion, now 8k vids are extremely immersive plus a lightweight headset like the quest 3 makes gooning much easier also no cables, so its actually pretty amazing now.

Display tech, data transfer rates and compute are not there yet. These are biggest showstoppers in my opinion. When having two 8k displays strapped to your face will become feasible and somewhat affordable we will see resurgence of VR tech, cause headsets will become actually usable as workstation replacements.

your retarded bro quest 3 has a above average resolution for headsets and the pancake lenses make it have almost perfect edge to edge clarity try gooning with a tiny sweet spot instead it instantly ruins the immersion it has mixed reality capabilities for ar porn

VR Porn can be decent (I just trawl through a freesite that has 4K vids), but VaM is just way too much effort.
The real meta is VRChat ERP with bluetooth toys, assuming you can find an actual woman to have fun with there. Lapdances worlds are fairly common every weekend at least.

theres not enough good games to justify the price for the average person
no one pays that much just to play one or two games for a couple hours, except maybe nintendo fans
