That's more or less what I thought as well. If the game had a proper prologue/lifepath introduction, we would've had like at least a couple of hours of our V's lifepath, that way they could've introduced each V and Jacky's relationship in their own way instead of just randomly dropping Jacky in front V. And to the corpo start we have, I don't know, it feels somewhat appropriate. V is a street kid that grows up to make it big in a corpo while Jacky sticks to the streets with the Valentinos, that's how they get separated and also eventually reunited when V asks Jacky to take out Abernathy.

Cyberpunk's great and also fucking sucks due to the wasted potential.

Because that would cut into all the time with Johnny. I honestly have no idea why CDPR has such a boner for him. It just clashes with most of the shit you do. The pacing is off for the game. You have clear 3 acts (Konpeki, Badlands, Arasaka Assault), where Badlands takes far longest while being mostly directionless desertmonkey wrangling. If they had cut it in half and you'd spent that time befriending Jackie and fucking around in starting area/japantown/northside, the game would flow a lot better and Jackie's death would feel impactful instead of "huh a sidekick? Ohh he died lmao"

I was sad when Jackie died just as I was sad when Duncan died in Dragon Age Origins. The time spent isn't enough to make them your best bros but enough to make you appreciate them.

Liking or disliking Jackie is like a litmus test as to whether you have a soul or not, whether you ever had true bros or not.
It's not surprising to see this many people dislike him on this board, you know what you are, you know what it is you lack, and it bothers you to see it put into your games.

IMO Corpo and Nomad paths were the best. Street Kid, the "real" Night City experience was just comical. Jackie just decides he's now best friends with some random solo-streetrat stranger he just met and off you go for wacky timeskip gangbanger spree. Hell, a simple "V? Is that you? I thought you dead years ago" when they meet to imply they were childhood friends would've made the scene flow smoothly instead of feeling railroaded and illogical.

Hacking is boring imo. You just sit outside the mission area, nuke everything without them ever being able to see you or fight back, then run through empty corridors. Its an AFK simulator. Stealth + Throwing Axes feels brutal and cool in an edgy way. Pistols end up being really powerful too when leveled up. Gorilla Arms/Baseball Bat ooga booga is surprisingly enjoyable brainless bonking too, you'll knock shit around and pick enemies up to use them as living projectiles, very different from Sandevistan playthrough.

i usually go for a netrunning/blades build. and when i finish phantom liberty i just cheat myself the militech canto, being some samurai netrunner uploading AI demons into gonks brains, watching it spread to all their buddies and slicing up the rest is fun as fuck

I started playing through the game only stealth, only knife kills. And somehow it was 10 times more tedious than fucking stealth bow in Oblivion. I guess because there's so much more combat, that it starts to feel repetitive so fast, with the AI being just as if not more janky than ES games. I started to experiment more halfway through, but respeccing took so much money that I couldn't do too much at a time. Not to mention, I was crafting all my gear, and it scales with your level, so I was constantly just recrafting the same shit over and over.

With how bad the story is, this game was miserable.

That should have been an option, but I maintain they could have fixed it to be bittersweet especially if you had a relationship with Panem.

Would have been a better ending, but then again I still think that the Phantom Liberty ending should had other options besides Tower, each with multiple branches and at least one "secret" one like the mainline ending. One would be making a deal with Songbird (who you also should have been able to romance if you preferred) who gets Mr Blueyes to claim he can "fix" you, in exchange for working for Nightcorp in a job they need. Alternately, you become NUSA's JC Denton and if you do the secret ending variant, you get to keep Johnny around (who either gets a borg body or as some sort of VI depending) as your Paul.

They cut SO much stuff short with Phantom Liberty and we never even got the other expansion that was supposed to make up for it, but if nothing else Panam should not have just left a phone message and fucked off

The problem is that the mission where he dies has to be railroaded, but that would be implausible if you already had all the endgame upgrades, so they have to place it at the beginning of the game before they really open up the world.

I've always said that the game would've benefitted a LOT from not just giving a cutscene to show the leadup to the tower job. Do vignettes, a mission here some hangout time there - opportunities for the player to talk establish background details through dialogue, time for you to come to appreciate him as a character. Unfortunately, that would make this some kinda 'role playing game' instead of an action fps with rpg elements.

I just finished the anime and it was pretty good pretty gay, made me start a replay. Using welcome to night city collection with some big booby mods has been pretty nice, game has come a long way
