I think if they attempted to do a King's Field reboot/sequel, head get pretty close again. The fps design would lend itself back to designing environments and levels instead of being a boss rush sim, or that's what my hopeium is telling me.

On the contrary, he never bothered to do Dark Souls' metroidvania 1:1 scale design again. It makes sense, as it leads to a lot of shortcomings in moment to moment level design, which is why the best areas of Dark Souls were both self-contained areas.

I thought it worked out pretty well for the most part. The different paths around Darkroot, wandering down into spooky ghost town early, the shortcut through Valley of Drakes. Only thing I think kinda sucks is noobs getting stuck in Tomb of the Big Boners with no warp.

Elden Ring has more in common with Evergrace than Dark Souls, and thats what makes it a culmination of this living, breathing idea of the ultimate customizable action JRPG, which he has been taking very good care of for a long time. if you dont fuck with it at this point it's because of ego holding you back

Funny because DeS was my second Fromsoft game since Kuon. Yet I dont like DeS at all. My favorites came much later with Shadow tower and Kingsfield 4. Its almost like this stupid childhood bullshit doesn't exist if you play a game enough because you understand all its issues
