There are a lot of indie metroidvanias but most of them are garbage. We had a good game like Axiom Verge and then for some reason the guy decided to make Axiom Verge 2 bad purposefully, as a joke. I don't think Silksong will suffer the same fate because it just looks like more HK.
AV2 actually looked like a dumpster fire from the first time we saw it in that Nintendo Direct. And this is just one example. We got short meme metroidvania devolverslop like Gato Roboto. Ori 2 was okay but it was always more about platforming than exploring the world and it's not technically an indie game. Blasphemous was alright but didn't set the world on fire, I'd say that's the only decent actual metroidvania released between HK and now.
There really has been a drought of GOOD games in the genre.

Making anything accessible to anyone is a double edged sword.
