What game controller has the best dpad? I'm currently using the 8bitdo Ultimate 2C and I keep getting accidental diagonals.

4 is a bit more ergonomic but it's flimsy and has a horrible usb port

In my experience:
Vader 3 and above all have great disc shaped pads, I really don't like the Xbox mold of the Vader 3/4 though, Vader 5 solves this but it costs too much right now.
Wolverine V2 Chroma and above have excellent disc shaped d-pad but I'd never buy a Chroma because the back paddles are literally designed to break, a better investment would be a V3 tournament since it has way better paddles and also hall effect sticks but it's up to you, V2 Chroma can be found for dirt cheap nowadays if you know where to look.
If you want something with full SEGA style layouts I recommend the Raion and Power A's fighting controller, the former has microswitches like the aforementioned controllers and green keyboard switches for the face buttons, the latter has membrane and some cool hybrid switches with thick rubber membrane for the face buttons which give a pretty unique feedback.

Avoid 8bitdo pads, avoid Gamesir, avoid first party controllers, avoid anything that is suspiciously cheap, you might not like it but unless it's cheap because it's heavily discounted then you're more always than not buying something that is cheap in actual quality too.

I currently use an 8bitdo M30 for fightans and other 2D stuff, the d-pad feels fine. I know Jaimers uses one for shmups, at least occasionally.
