Depends. Like dealing with most assholes in the world, you don't expect it until they show themselves to be assholes. For the most part, cops simply ignore you. But sometimes cops are just pricks look to abuse their power. They have weird hero complexes that make them treat the average person like criminals.
They do things like harass you for ID, when you have no reason to. In order to be forced to show ID, the cop needs reasonable articulable suspicion. Meaning, they need a real reason to suspect you. They can't just say they suspect you for no reason. So there are situations where people are eating their lunch in a parking lot. A cop pulls up, """suspicious""" and starts demanding ID. It's an unlawful request, but by arguing with them, you open yourself up to escalation. The cop will think of some bullshit reason to escalate, and then demand that you step out of your vehicle and ID you anyway.
The cuckservative mentality is always "dood, just comply". Even though what the cop is doing is literally against the law and an abuse of his power.
