I play mine a few times each week. OG phat model w/ free mcboot and SATA mod on the network adapter.

feels good. back in the day of video rental places, I used to rent ps2 games and rip them directly to the drive. I still have the two IDE drives w/ all of those backups.

Even during the 2000s i didn't play games on mine. I used it as a DVD player to watch box sets of anime, simpsons, HBO shows.

If i wanted to play games, i had a dreamcast, gamecube, and GBA for that.

Probably somewhere in the 100k range if you include retro collectors, emulation nerds with HDD setups, and people in countries where the PS2 is still king. Don’t forget a ton of people modded them to hell-Free McBoot, OPL, HDLoader-all that keeps those things breathing life. The real question is how many people still use the disc drive without soft modding. I bet that number's in the single digits.

Probably like a million or so, the PS3 had around that many users IIRC in 2023.
I still use both those consoles semi regularly despite owning a PS5
