Because the switch 1 felt like Nintendo coming back into their own and firing on all cylinders. So many people that Nintendo had lost over the years came back when switch came out with BotW and Odyssey slated for later that year. In contrast, the Switch 2 doesn't have a big defining game yet. Bananza is phenomenal and there could be an argument for it, but it isn't the system seller that I think they hoped it would be. Mario Kart World is just another Mario Kart, and has less content than 8D.

I think there are a lot of people still on the fence. Waiting for something to truly make them want to spend the $500.

Lots of people got burned with switch 1. They bought into the hype that “Nintendo was back!” and then slowly realized they were not back at all. Botw and Mario odyssey tricked people into thinking their output and quality would increase but it didn’t. I think animal crossing was their biggest normie bait but no one stuck around after that once everyone realized how boring it was.
