An game ost being good isn't about good songs played in isolation. The songs have to be well-placed and played during the appropriate times. JRPGs almost always fail at this by playing the same looping soundtrack in overworlds and battles you spend hours in. I envy people who don't get sick of that but I literally cannot listen to a looping song that much without starting to hate it, especially when the energy of the song doesn't match the situation (playing an epic orchestral rock song while fighting a crab or some shit).

2's soundtrack was tainted to me thanks to Rex's VA just not fitting for a anime style game,. Al Weaver is a good actor but for a game like XB2 especially one that makes its MC look younger by design and so I cannot engage with the soundtrack without being reminded of his performance.
And before anyone claims anything 2 was my first Xeno game so no nostalgia bias goes into my view.

Part of what makes 2's soundtrack stand out is the variety. The vocal tracks are Mitsuda, and that one opera track is pretty good. I don't understand why people elevate Mitsuda's Xenoblade contributions, it pales in comparison to his earlier stuff from decades ago and it's not nearly as memorable as the other Xenoblade composers' stuff; It's telling when Mitsuda's best Xenoblade songs are co-composed with another composer.

Because it didn't fucking fit. The setting has no definable aesthetic and the flutes are jarring because of how flutes are typically used in cohesion with certain types of settings, for the sound they make and where they came from.

Shimomura is a cheat code, she has been doing history in the industry since she was 19 years old, she's on a whole another tier.

This is definitely the better battle theme but I will say I've come to appreciate the Bionis' battle theme a lot these days too

lol, I wouldn't be able, each game takes me like 90 fucking hours, I would replay 1 game yearly (probably 2) but not the whole series.

I'm looking forward to playing a Monolith Soft game that doesn't look like it has vaseline smeared across it. Been playing Switch 2 games and went back to Future Redeemed and fuck me, the resolution looks disgusting. Like 500p or something.

Also hope the next game's world feels a bit less static. Jumped into a massive dandelion in future redeemed and it doesn't move. Everything in the world is like a block and it all feels like one big rock.

Little details like jumping into a big flower and it sways and the petals break off it or something please. Just give the world a bit more life with some flourishes.

I've been hooked continuously on the series since February. I'm gonna do another XC2 run but I still have to finish Future Redeemed. I also have to think about which Blades I'm going to use on which characters. I'm thinking Morag is gonna hang out with Newt next go round and Zeke is gonna be best friends with Gorg. Nia can get Crossette. And Rex...I don't know. Perun?

The Trinity Box set is the only time I have ever bothered buying a gaming OST because the soundtrack is without flaw

I have never used vaseline nor do I know what it looks like so I sincerely wish people would stop using this term because it's not relatable. Say something else.
