BotW and its consequences have been a disaster for Nintendo's creativity.

I am so fucking sick of every major Nintendo game now being "Uh, we didn't design levels. We just made a big empty world and you can wander around it collecting Korok-seed equivalents. There is no gameplay evolution over the course of the game. This is basically just a quick tech demo we made and then dumped a bunch of pointless shit into and called it a game".

This "design" philosophy is shit, and it's ruining series that have no business adopting these principles. Who the fuck wanted Mario Kart to be an open world where you occasionally do a a 5 second task to collect sticker? I'm playing DK Bananza right now and it's so fucking mindless because the solution to everything is to just smash it. Nothing changes over the course of the game, just smash and get bananas mindlessly.

This shit has to stop. I've never seen a company learn the wrong lessons so hard before. BotW was successful almost a decade ago at this point and they decided that every game someone at their company is working on from now on just has to ape the design principles of BotW, regardless of if it makes sense or not.

Bowser's Fury was short and sweet and MKW is cool.
Odyssey was solid.

Maybe it would if people stopped buying the games, but every single one of those games has either met or greatly exceeded expectations. They're breaking sales records and getting really high review scores on the games, so why should they stop?

The breadth of TotK is immeasurable; this is a game ahead of its time, and it has changed the gaming landscape forever.

You'll see plenty of jealous detractors propping up mediocre attempts at encapsulating this wondrous, innovative step into the future of video games with inferior titles like Elden Ring, Horizon, The Last of Us, and other such shallow imitations, but for real fans of adventure, mystique, compelling narrative, and spectacle, Tears of the Kingdom stands alone. There won't be another cornerstone of gaming like this for at least a decade, if not more.

I feel privileged to be one of the lucky folks experiencing this gaming Renaissance. This is it, lads and lasses. This is the first step in the future of simulated adventure gaming. I am so, SO proud of Nintendo for this momentous release.

Solid ass list honestly. Nine Sols and Metaphor alone would've carried 2024, but throwing Infinite Wealth and Rebirth in there made it ridiculous. And you're right-Octopath 2 getting forgotten in 2023 is criminal, probably the most slept-on RPG of that year. Lies of P was fun but it definitely ate off being "not FromSoft." Lowkey feels like 2023 and 2024 were just making up for the drought we had in the early 2020s.

why is echoes of wisdom there? its not an empty open world and funnily enough its the worst of these games. bowsers fury and pokemon legends arceus are open, but they arent open world, and even then they're still worse games then the actual open world games.

A better term would be the Ubisoftication. Since BoTW is just Ass Creed. Remind that Ubisoft and Nintendo have a great relationship, since they have that Rayman X Mario crossover collaboration game series "Rabids". Ubisoft obviously gave them some advice on what direction to go.
