Game devs are shittier now. Artists left and weren't replaced because it's more effort and $ to hire someone who knows what they're doing when they can just target the lowest common denominator, dump all their money in gwaficks, shit out a poorly optimized product, day 1 patch it with 12 gb worth of half-assed fixes and then make fun of the players for not being able to do anything about it because they'll buy it anyway.

There's still plenty of good games out there, just get comfortable with compromise, go out of your comfort zone into a genre you thought was shit or boring, and be willing to enjoy something even if it's not God Tier 10/10 Best Game Ever.

I think you can say that video games have gotten worse. Because their design principles have changed a lot. Arcade games had a very different philosophy. We have gone a long way from that, and modern games just feel very bloated with tons of pointless crap

In the early 2000s I was buying video games every week with my meagar part time job.
Today I buy maybe 3 games a year and I make over $68,000 a year. The games I do buy are either some $20 or less indie game or a niche Japanese release. I don't even pirate shit that wasn't released over 20 years ago.

Successfully removing sexy women from games and just the general resentment these devs have for their consumer base. We are 5 years into the new decade and there has been only 2 breakthrough games.
