No one seems to like Game Key Cards on the Switch 2, but what would your preferred solution be?
>Switch 2 games are shipped on the same storage medium as Switch 1 cartridges, games have significantly worse load times and potentially worse performance when played off of the cartridge. However, you can optionally install your games to your system for faster speeds. Similarly to Game Key Cards, the correct cartridge still has to be inserted to play game content. Game Key Cards no longer exist in this scenario, but you need to be wary of your storage if you want multiple games installed.
>Game prices are increased by 15-20% to cover the cost of high capacity storage, but Game Key Cards don't exist anymore
>Nintendo ditches physical media all together, but they improve their refund policy and the eShop gets significantly better quality control. Game prices also drop slightly.

I actually like them because you can still resell them, unlike direct downloads.

>but muh "if the servers go down"

Shut up. Just install it prior.

Digital licenses could easily be resold, but nobody wants to make it happen for various reasons.
I don't think we'll be seeing key cards on the switch 3

No way it costs 20% more to manufacture higher capacity storage and even if it did it's only a small part of the total cost of a physical game and even then it's only temporary, they should take the 0.5% hit to profit margin and in 6 months time carts will cost 20% less than the smallest one now. I really hate how in the 2020s companies will take any opportunity and use any excuse to squeeze the customer to the max, it's not my fucking problem that X or Y is happening or that your new format costs more to manufacture, it's your problem, you should solve it, not pass it down to me, why are you even CEO if you're incapable of doing shit about anything?

Fuck this fucking industry. As it is, if you're gonna be a nigger with me, I'm gonna be a nigger too and pirate everything. No more money from me.

It scales up proportionally. Just look at Samsung's nvmes. A 2 TB 990 evo costs $120 and a 4 TB costs $240.

How about
>Nintendo stops using stupid faggot formats like mini-disks and cartridges, takes the L and releases games on bluray or dvd or whatever like everyone else has been doing for the past 30 years
Mind blowing concept I know

drop the handheld gimmick. nobody seriously buys a shitch for handheld mode except manchild tendies that "play in bed" or embarrass themselves in public. games consoles are supposed to be plugged into the TV at all times. if you are going to demand handheld mode, you don't get to cry about key cards

Best solution:
Nintendo makes smaller capacity cards for smaller games.

The issue is the cost. No one wants to put out a 40 dollar physical game where almost half of the cost is just manufacturing.

No they aren't, they're updates/DLC that "upgrade" Switch 1 versions into Switch 2 versions. How do those work? Do they use less or the same space as just downloading the Switch 2 game off the e-shop?

They literally just apply a patch that allows the game to access the additional HW resources of the Switch 2. It's no different from next gen patches of PS4 games for PS5.

Anonymous No.719776290 >>719776452
Can't you just ship your new small indie game on a switch 1 card if 64gb card is too expensive? All those smaller games are probably could run on the 1st switch and would also benefit from the bigger install base. Switch 2 owners can also buy those cards and benefit from free performance upgrade.
If your game all big and fancy than buy 64gb card.

Bro what do you mean that was the model for Switch 1 carts 2 could easily do the same, have Nintendo eat the cost for all I care, better then the current model where those game key cards are doomed to stay as shelf filler, the plastic and metal could have been used in a real fucking cartridges

Well I think that's what those articles are hinting at with Nintendo not giving a lot of Switch 2 dev kits, if your game is as big as fucking Puyo Puyo and knowing how that sold like shit, I think the move from Nintendo is just telling those guys to just make it Switch 1 games

Ah yes, using inferior formats just because they're cheaper and forcing the consumer to install just for good load times.

Switch 2 cards are like the microSD Express in terms of bandwidth, and the smaller storage options literally do not exist. Inventing these would cost far more money to manufacture, why do you think Nintendo use those 64gb carts for their games that cost less than half in GB ?

The fun part is that the smaller third party developers who shouldn't be able to foot that bill are the ones putting them on cart while the larger ones that very much could are the ones going with the keys.

>you can still resell them, unlike direct downloads
The resell argument is weak because depending on how the keycards are setup by developers it will heavily depreciate in immediate value. The Street Fighter 6 keycard is basically worthless if the dlc code is already used previously. Meanwhile any Switch 2 game key card with a Switch 1 equivalent on cart will automatically be valued "on par" price wise upon resell. Puyo Puyo Tetris 2 and Raidou Remastered comes to mind. The key card version will ""generally"" be in lock step with the SW1 version in the secondary market.

Switch 2 key cards become even worse for resell value if we're talking about niche games like the upcoming Trails beyond the Horizon. Shit like that is basically dead on arrival because Trails of fans want the physical collection to be complete.

Yes, it will be affordable in the second-hand market anon. Buy at what cost for the reseller who got it new? That's the main point at hand. Is the resell argument strong enough to favor buying keycards new at $50, $60, $70 knowing the secondary market will low ball you upon resell?

The type of format that Nintendo is using for physical media is the right idea, as non-volatile flash memory is much faster, more durable and can contain much more storage than Blu-ray. And the best part is that it's not a stagnant technology and is always getting larger in storage, faster and cheaper.

The problem is Nintendo is using the cheapest garbage possible.

tl;dr the technology is there, but Nintendo refuses to use it

Also, the punishment for refusing to comply is torture. All of humanity's potential must be permanently destroyed so a small group of rich and powerful elites can live in luxury and indulge their sadism and need for control forever, simply for the pleasure of ruining good things for everyone.

You said it yourself
PSP style data installs.
I can see games like Star Wars or maybe even a new Zelda needing high read speeds but what the fuck is the purpose of a high spec storage for shit like Puyopuyo? You're telling me Persona 3 needs to constantly data stream at high rates? You're telling me Sonic Generations CAN work off the cartridge when it's Switch 1 version but Switch 2 version which is the same game with higher res/fps es couldn't be ran from the same cartridge?
